Some other hosts I used for gifs were awful -- when opened they would "drag" in slow motion until going through the gif's cycle before animating at normal speed.

So far seems to be ok cuzzyman

We don't have time to monitor different threads to find a quick solution for this disaster. I think, we have better things to do. As for me I'm rather thinking of preparing reuploads of posts important to me - and maybe other members too (to whatever host it would be in the end).

I support that idea, but wouldn't it be better, to create a sub-forum and split the forum into following topics (single threads):

1. General discussion
2. technical solutions for downloading, like halvar's tool
3. discussion of alternative hosts (while testing all of them in the test forum)
4. thread with a list of inactive members (deceased/retired/banned/blocked/long time inactive) as first post, where everybody, who have spare time, can jump in and choose one of them to save the posts of this members, or gets an advise by the mods which one he should save.
To avoid that saving of this posts is done by two members at the same time, it should be set a note in the first post, which member saves which posts.
And a note, when the saving is done, eg.:

posts which should be saved saving member done
erdnuss member xyz 23/06/17
bb69 member zzz 25/06/17
Winebeavis member xxxx
billybunter member yyy 16/06/17

Alternative to that it could be organized not by inactive members, but by threads.

thread saving member done
Imagnet Scans (CSV-verified) member xyz 23/06/17
Magma Scans (from CeeCee) member zzz 25/06/17

5. thread where top-posters, who can't dl/re-upload all their stuff like Al Gebra can post a similar table like in 4. and ask for help.

At least: You could make a note at the top of the page, where you point to that Subforum, so that everyone who is able and willing to help, will find it.

I was wondering if someone could please give me, and other less computer savvy members such as myself, a simplified step by step crash course on how to re-up/save posts to another host. Please remember to keep it simple as possible, and please do not use abbreviated terms and lingo. What comes easy and natural without a second thought for you is not so for us computer morons.

I don't believe that I have a prayer in hell to save my many thousands of posts throughout the forum, but some are better than none.

Many thanks!

Maybe there's something wrong on my settings...
Ok, I've sorted out or at least understood the problem of these files downloaded without their real names. And I tested on both sites (that are the same) Postimage and Pixxxels.

If you name your files 1, 2, 3, etc : they don't retain the name.
If you name your files with a prefix (for instance : Img_001 or img_2) : all is ok.
If you have some original filenames, such : Robin_Caulkins1981_104 : it's ok too, they keep the original.

To be short : single numbers aren't retained.
Weird but not dramatic.
And for now I'll use Pixxxels.org

I'm not a techie, but I will try it:-)

As I see, you have a huge ammount of posts, so you won't be able to save and re-up them all in this three weeks.

I would do it this way:

1. locate the posts you want to save.
How to find them: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4064559
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4064561

2. Download as many as you can post by post, saving them on your harddrive, sorted in folders named with the number of the original post, so you can find this post later, when you will re-upload it to another host.

You find the number of the post in the url, when opening your post, by cklicking at the postcount number (at the right corner top of the post), to open it in a new window:
Your post opens in a new window:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...postcount=2207
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4065315
There are two numbers: The postcount (of the thread, in this case: 2207), which can be ignored, and the Nr. of the post which is unique for each post on the board, in the example: 4065315.

You will always find your post again, by replacing the nr. of the post in the url of any single post at VEF with the your post nr. (e.g. 4065315).

e.g.:

http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4064395
Replaced the number in the url with 4065315:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=4065315

To download the images you can use jdownloader or the addon for firefox: Imagehost grabber. I'm not familiar with JDownloader, but Imagehost Grabber works fine.
Alternative you can use halvar's tool which he wrote especially for VEF and imagebam/imgbox. You will find it here

3. You can re-upload to another host like

imagevenue.com
pimpandhost.com
turboimagehost.com

Hope this helps a bit.

Aren't there some old retired members with big retirement funds who can buy imagebam? Just for prosperity to keep the vintage ladies alive?
Ps. Im not retired yet.
