I like the rain as well. But that river pageant was laughable. The yanks were pissing themselves at the twits trying to invent something new to say. "Prince Phillp stands in the rain. The true embodiment of the British spirit." Blah blah. He was standing thinking balls to this i'm wet freezing and pissed orf.

You'll be pleased to know that the Thames Pageant didn't cost the tax-payer a penny as it was entirely funded by donations to a privately-funded charitable trust, the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation. The actual "cost" of the Jubilee weekend will be down to policing etc. so at least someone earned a bit of over-time! The biggest p*ss-take is that Gary Barlow's ego-trip was paid for by anyone who has a TV licence as the BBC footed the bill. |

You just don't get it. The royals can afford to host a party like that everyweek. So cough up you lot.

The two major events (the Thames Pageant and the Jubilee Concert) weren't paid for by the tax-payer, so nobody had to "cough up". The main costs will be associated with extra policing and security, but exactly the same applies to the annual Lord Mayor's Show, the Notting Hill Carnival, and just about every major public event around the country. Without wishing to go off-topic, it costs the tax-payers millions each year to police football matches! According to data supplied by The Met under the Freedom of Information Act, it cost the taxpayer £1 million just to provide match-day policing for five London clubs (Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham, West Ham) in the 2010/2011 season. That wasn't what was paid for by the clubs ... it was what the tax-payer had to stump up! Imagine what it must cost the tax-payer to police all the other football matches around the country! The problem with having "The Windsors" pay for the Jubilee is that the anti-Royalists will immediately say that we pay for the Royal Family, so if they paid for the Jubilee, it would still be our money! As it turned out, it wasn't our money; it wasn't their money; it wasn't our money that we give to them ... it was mainly private donations and the BBC! |

Private donations. And the BBC. Come on squiggs at least some money had to have been spent by joe public.
Well as long as the public enjoyed themselves. Fleets has it all on DVD because he was in bed while it was on.

All of the costs of the Thames Pageant were covered by the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation and the money comes from big businesses (like Sainsbury, AMV BBDO (the third largest advertising agency in the world) and Chevron Fuels), private donations, and the sale of tickets to the "hooray Henry" brigade who had to shell out big time for fancy dinners and trips down the Thames. (There's a four page PDF file listing all the donors if you're interested! ) The Foundation will have an excess of funds and that money will go to various charities, the main one being The British Legion. As for the concert, the BBC sold the broadcasting rights worldwide, and I'd be very surprised if the has-beens and who-are-they's who performed were actually paid so it probably didn't cost that much in real terms. With an average of 15 million viewers, the BBC probably got good value for their money. |

Strewth! The Illuminati, the Freemasons, and David Icke's Lizard People ... forget the BBC ... they should have shown the Jubilee celebrations on the Sci-Fi Channel!

It takes remarkable hypocrisy for the Queen to be making speeches about austerity. She can barely even know the meaning of the word. All the Royal Family are is a rich family, made richer by their subjects. They can be a rich family without us, and we'd all be a little better off without them. People talk about all the valuable work they do and the contribution they make to the economy by bringing in tourism but I don't really buy that. They talk about the Royal Family boosting tourism as if people wouldn't go to London anyway for the museums and galleries, sporting and music events, theatre or a whole host of other reasons. If we didn't have a Royal Family, I doubt anybody would notice. |
