...that the plant life in the Amazon basin is not the "lungs of the planet"? Apparently all the oxygen they produce is used by all the animal life in the Amazon basin.

Which makes me wonder, would the Amazon basin plant life produce as much oxygen if there wasn't so much animal life there using it up and turning it into carbon dioxide?

Today is the 100th anniversary of the RAF (Royal Air Force ) which was formed on this day in 1918 from the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Corps. A fly past was planned from Biggin Hill with two Spitfires and a Hurricane.

Default Who Can it Be

I saw this yesterday and I thought about some of the people I know

Humans are deuterostomes , which means that when they develop in the womb, the anus forms before any other opening . Which basically means at one point, you were nothing but an asshole .
Some people never develop beyond this stage .

Reminds me of a point made by a scientist of some sort on the BBC programme "Horizon". He pointed out that at one time before animals evolved, there were only plants.

As a result, the earth became appallingly polluted...by oxygen which is a very damaging and corrosive chemical.

Luckily animals came along and turned it back to carbon dioxide which restored the balance.

Now we think of CO2 as the enemy again...weird!

Yup. The first single cell critters to photosynthesis set off an appalling world wide extinction event, killing off nearly everything on the planet with poisonous oxygen.

Also quite humbling to remember that we're simply by-products of plant metabolism.

Originator of Fozzie Bear and Miss Piggy(amongst others) Frank Oz only just found out that "muppet" in this country is used as an insult as in " oh, you muppet!" He lived here for nine years and never knew that "muppet" was used in a negative way, but I suppose it is a typically British thing or more likely now new-style cockney speak for doing something stupid or being an idiot!

It's quite a mild and affectionate put down though - quite low on the official Plonker Scale of insults.

Depends on how you say it, any word even a swear word can be used to either make a point or attack someone."You muppet!" as you say is mild by comparison unless you add a swear word before it of course.
