 https://youtu.be/Bng6P118R48 Marin Marais was a well know French composer in the middle to late Baroque period. His specialty was playing and composing music for the viol(viola da gamba). He also wrote a number of operas. He is mostly remembered for his five books of viol music called: Pieces de viole. The disc I have has two viol suites on it which are un-remarkable. The greater selection is this work called Les Folies d'Espagne. This was an old Iberian dance tune with 32 sections called couplets possibly composed in the 16th century. It is such a popular piece of music that many great Baroque composers have written variations of it. Marin Marais set this piece of music to a viol and a harpsichord.
