Another simpler fix from Mozilla site

What are my options if I want to use an unsigned add-on? (advanced users)

Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR), Firefox Developer Edition and Nightly versions of Firefox will allow you to override the setting to enforce the extension signing requirement, by changing the preference xpinstall.signatures.required to false in the Firefox Configuration Editor (about:config page). To override the language pack signing requirement, you would set the preference extensions.langpacks.signatures.required to false. There are also special unbranded versions of Firefox that allow this override. See the MozillaWiki article, Add-ons/Extension Signing for more information.

Only it doesn't seem to work in my version of FF. bugger!

It's back to normal now FOR ME (can't promise it's working for everyone obviously). Add ons re-enabled themselves.

From Mozilla:

Mozilla has rolled-out a fix for this. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours, you don’t need to take active steps.

In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, they are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled

Go to [=] > Options > Privacy & Security.
Make sure Allow Firefox to install and run studies is check marked.

I you had it disabled, you can disable studies again after your add-ons have been re-enabled.

They are working on a general fix that doesn't need to rely on this and will keep you updated.

I thought there was something strange going on, my FF has also recently been crashing and restarting, anyone else have this problem? Thanks for the heads up.

Youtube is full of adds now and they want you to pay for premium to do away with the adds.I assume that has something to do with this.

It's weird but on my laptop i never get any ads. (on tablet - different account - i do get them)

I don't know the reason, but could it be because in the past i used to upload video's on it?

Default Firefox fumbles

Like others, I suppose, I refrained from updating FF when warnings were posted here and elsewhere.Months and months ago.

That was OK with me, because following similar advice about the 'dangers' of updating the W7 OS ~ that advice worked.

Today I found all... ALL ... me add-ons were gone. All 7/8 of them.
The Legacy and Alternatives wouldn't download... "connection failure"

So... thinking I was too out of touch, I upgraded FF from about v 53, where I'd been hiding, to v66 or whatever.

Then I saw a small advice bar across the top of the page.... as Jenny said in a post ^ ^ ^ ^

Older versions of FF may not see this... dunno..... but basically FF are saying they have a 'HotFix' which will roll-out over the next few hours, and upgrade in the background, to restore Add-Ons and allow uncertificated add-ons access to Legacy(older) and Alt clones things.

This MAY BE on a priority basis... i.e. Heavy Users First = US etc....
So living where I do, I expect/hope to get back to normal, espesh with Ad-Blocking ... about next Thursday, tea-time, as Monty Python says....

FF didn't say, 'priority', but that's my take on it, as some have been restored and the rest of us haven't, as yet.

Trivia:

On about 3/4/5 Footies sites this evening, searching for best 'illegal streams'.... ..... me browser was full of pornish dating sites that I'd never seen before... most of them for "Grandmothers"..... I didn't realise how much I needed an Ad Blocker until today.

So that's one endorsement

Going to Opera I think......

Per the normandy entry, the hotfix update is available here. Either allow googleapis.com to install add-ons (no thanks), or download locally then Install from file in the Firefox Add-ons Management tab (Tools => Add-ons => Click gearbox in top right => Install Add-on from File...). It's rather interesting to watch the add-ons slowly enable as their certificates are re-validated.
The link above is a link directly to an xpi (Firefox add-on file) stored on Google's API site. This is apparently the fix that requires "studies" to be activated, via the company that is involved in these Firefox "studies"...no thanks. Instead, follow their instructions in order to apply the fix manually (no add-on remains), without signing up for "studies".

I would continue to watch this coming week for a dot update to Firefox containing the full fix. Sorry for my initial jumping the gun on this issue, as it didn't affect me until this afternoon. This really is a PR disaster for the gang that can't shoot straight at Mozilla...Vivaldi anyone?
