Default Watch out for the new captchas on Deposit Files

Deposit Files has started to use a different captcha that requires you to click on a "play" button to see it. Doing so on three occasions has triggered a ransomware attempt. Fortunately I'm on a Mac which just went "yeah, whatever" but it was annoying. It was that "System Error Warning" one with the beeping that is known to lock some browsers on some operating systems.

The easy workaround is click the "new captcha" button that you usually click if an unreadable one comes up. Click it a few times and eventually it'll cycle to another form of captcha.

Not saying DF is doing this themselves, but if anyone here is in touch with those guys you might want to let them know their new captcha is buggy. Right now it's the only site I've encountered that uses this particular one. Fortunately that workaround is effective so it's not a deal breaker.

Yep noticed this as well. I agree click the new captcha. It is annoying nut better than resetting your origonal open window to (usually) a betting site.

Edit: Update just used it and it has managed to get round my adblocker+ and give me pop-ups, one of which freezes things for a minute or so. Another one only pops up after closing down (or minimising) all orther pages.

Ransomware one I got through this threatened to tell the queen on me, I shat myself. Would hate the old girl to know what sites I visit- would probably kill her at her age. Mind you they do say that Duke of Edinburgh is a bit of a player!

I just checked 5 of my latest videoclip uploads to DF,and none of these show the kind of captcha that you refer to.
Maybe this differs from country to country,or in which part of the world you live.
Is it something that you´ve encountered here in VEF,then maybe you could put up a link to the post/s that is affected,so some computerwiz can take a look at it.
I think that I´ve seen it at DF before, but that was a long time ago.
Maybe the links you refer to are older ones?

I used deposit files a few times yesterday Friday 3rd june and didn't see any changes from what I'd usually expect or get any unusual pop ups etc.

edit just went and found a recent (this week) upload on deposit files, clicked etc etc - nothing happened that hasn't happened on there a million times before, no threats, ransomware, nothing, just a captcha, an ad pop up removed and a decent download speed for a big file.

Out of 67 different companies security products at virus total 1 says depoistfiles is suspicious

Would be nice to have 1 link that came back as infected so others could test it

If i had to guess I'd bet an ad with malware inside was responsible
Malvertising as they call it - malware + advertising
- if ads can be infected maybe picture / video captchas can be as well

Bottom line for mine is everyone needs to take care of their own security rather than blaming sites for warnings

If DF or any other filehosts had issues with ransomware or driveby script embeddings it would be easily found on google with a simple search

Little bit of a search for Mac & ransomware reveals their now being targetted

Mac Anti-Ransomware Tool Released, but Needs More Work
by Paul Wagenseil Apr 20, 2016, 11:34 AM

However, Wardle's own tool may have its limitations. Pedro Vilaca, a Portuguese Mac hacker, posted a video showing a quick and easy way around RansomWhere this morning (April 20), only a few hours after Wardle had unveiled his utility.

Macs aren't immune to ransomware. In March, we saw KeRanger, the first known piece of encrypting ransomware targeting Macs "in the wild." It didn't work entirely properly, but the next strain of Mac ransomware will be more effective.

Love that the community here is so quick to get on top of this. Buttsie is right, though. You need to take care of your own security. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback, I'd hate to lose VEF; these are all the stars from my formative years, and I've enjoyed this forum more than I can state.

I use Webroot and it still isn't showing any issues with DepositFiles. I did see the supposed ransom ware screen a few days ago, but it looked fake, I closed the window and haven't had any issues. I think it was just a scare tactic to get people to click on the popup.

Something new that I'm seeing this morning though is when I click a like to DF from VEF I'm getting redirected after I wait on the 60 second timer to run out. When I click in the captcha box (or anywhere around it, outside the box) I get redirected to:

http://depositfiles.com/files/undefined

That page gives me a new timer and eventually tells me that the file doesn't exist, access to the file is limited or the file has been removed due to copyright infringment. If I try to copy and paste that message here I get another popup.

I've been able to type out the captcha in Notepad then paste it back into the captca box and hit
enter really quickly and I can see the download button, but I get redirected faster than I can click the link.

I saw where someone else said that DF will limit access to files if they've got a lot of traffic from paying customers, but I've been using them for many years and have never seen that behavior before.

I was curious if anyone else is seeing what I'm seeing today?

EDIT TO ADD: I just found that if you can stop the captcha page from redirecting (just press the stop button or whatever keyboard shortcut for that function) then you'll get the link for the download link.
