No it is an Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV). There are many types of AFV and Tank is one of them, as is the Shilka, and various forms of armoured personnel carriers, ambulances, command vehicles and Recce vehicles' A tank is an armored fighting vehicle designed for front-line combat, with heavy firepower, strong armour, and tracks providing good battlefield manoeuvrability.

Perhaps a language misunderstanding. The German word for tank is Panzer. The ZSU is referred here as Flakpanzer. The literal translation would be anti-aircraft cannon tank.

I was wrong on Iraq. Obviously, Iraq has no A2. My mistake, sorry for this erroneous assertion. This may be one of the causes of Iraqi Abrams losses. However, this does not change the enormous losses of Saudi M1A2 in Yemen.

I shouldn't have to correct a native German speaker on his own language-but 'panzer' is an abbreviation of 'panzerkampfwagen' which correctly translates into english as 'armoured fighting vehicle'....a tank is an AFV, but the reverse does not necessarily hold. haroldeye's original post was correct. There are a plethora of AFVs-only a small proportion of which are actually tanks.
Remember that some of us here on this thread ARE armoured corps personnel-and DO know what we are talking about-in my case over 3 decades in that professional area.
