Sharia calls for amputation of body parts as punishment for certain offenses. I think we can all agree which body parts ought to be amputated to A) prevent an offender from committing another such offense. and B) make clear to other Muslims that raping 11 year old girls is absolutely not OK in our neck of the woods. And yes, I am an unreconstructed barbarian. |

Animals are sentient now?

Oh, and btw, the article is a lie, but we all know how the PC crowd operates: http://www.independent.co.uk/environ...-a8072071.html

That doesn't mean that we are going to stop killing and eating them. After all, it is only rather recently that we stopped killing and eating each other as a general practice. Some folks are still practicing cannibals. Now that I think of it, I might enjoy having Barron Trump over for a barbecue. |

I was under the mistaken belief that sentience meant intelligence, actually it only means the ability to perceive one's environment.
Amoeba and insects are sentient, then, virii are not. Perhaps a locust rights movement is in order, and its time to crack down on all those farmers who willfully kill all those sentient locusts. ...and don't forget about the aphids, cockroaches, tuberculosis, and what have you, don't want to be "speciesist" now do we?

That thing about wrapping kids in cotton wool and protecting them ... The old every kid gets a trophy even if dead last
Cricket Australia has now joined it, They want junior cricket to adapt a thing where kids can't go out for a duck, For the Yanks , a duck is where a batsman is out without making a score Sad that we can't bring up kids to face reality that one day you will lose or come last My way is similar , drum this into kids heads It's never OK to lose Second is the first loser Second is the same as last If you don't win, don't come home Advise that works for me

We did learn fairly quickly that only a few of us had the drive, size, and skills to succeed at the varsity level. Even those of us who did most dropped off in the transition from high school to college. What is important in life is finding one's niche and working to be skilled in that. (Working is a bad word. We enjoy doing our natural job.) I agree with Estreeter here. While the kids figure out that adults are full of shit, they are not prepared for the real world with its performance standards, politics, firings, lay-offs, etc. These are painful experiences, but bouncing up when life knocks you down is the most important skill of all. |
