Mrs May should have called a general election after Parliament voted to forbid a No-Deal Brexit, specifically to pro-rogue the House and prevent it from opposing the automatic deadline date on which Britain should have left the EU with no deal. We would now be out, and ironically the Tories would be much better placed for the election than they are now for these futile and embarrassing EU elections due on 22 May. Bizarre though ot was, I felt nyself broadly in agreement with Mr Verhofstadt over the extension - he is right that it will only postpone a hard decision without changing anything.

I don't know when this nonsense will be over and like most people in the UK I wish it was already over now. This parliament will never ever agree on anything except to be against anything that is suggested, no matter what that might be. If there is to be a decision before Halloween, there has to be a general election to flush the cache. Someone has to dissolve parliament and call this election as it is patently clear that Mrs May will die sooner than do it herself. I understand the Tories are plotting again, but they had their chance and they chickened out, so I don't look for anything from them. Maybe it is time for Corbyn to call another vote of No Confidence, unless the Speaker decides it is against Parliamentary rules, which might well be the case.

Mrs May really should resign, should have already resigned. Actually, I think she ought to consider blowing her brains out with a revolver; but of course she won't do anything remotely as unselfish. She is a key obstacle to any hope of progress. When she goes, whenever that is, the next Tory leadership election will lay bare the ideological divide in that party as no unifying platform can be argued now. You are either in favour of leaving with or without a deal, or you are against leaving regardless of the deal or lack of a deal. I have reached the point where I think any resolution is better than this dance of the dead.

Where does her support lie?

For all the folks who claim to loathe her, there she remains, and there's not even a serious challenge.

Its almost as if everyone knows that the job itself is thankless, and is happy to have her do it.

It's far easier to vote or be against something or someone than to be specifically for a realistic alternative as the Brexit vote has shown.

There is no real proposal from the Brexiteers here as to who exactly is to replace her, apart from David Davis. WTF? Really? the Brexit secretary who was actually responsible for negotiating a deal who constantly backtracked on everything he said on his negotiations. The man who said -

“Within two years, before the negotiation with the EU is likely to be complete, and therefore before anything material has changed, we can negotiate a free trade area massively larger than the EU.”

"There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside."

Really this old blowhard blagger is our new hope.
Maybe it's his SAS credentials that impress them.

Yes, I can imagine it's difficult, especially when little is ever admitted and you are taught from earliest age that you were always the good guys and you were only educating savages. That's how propaganda works, and people believe it because they want to believe it

But when leading people & historians document at least 35 million deaths in India at the hand of the Empire, it should look a little different, imho

Bear in mind, that's only India. There were the same ruthless practices all over the world, notably slavery in the Americas and narcotics in China. Whether you are taught it or not, people still remember

The only solution is to be objective, as the Germans are. Not being so is a big problem with brexit, because some politicians have a sense of entitlement from their country's "achievements" that no one else shares

Perhaps so, but it's no excuse for almost constantly complaining about Britain and almost silence about any sh*t anyone else has done. That may seem a little harsh, but I don't believe I've ever read any post by Palo5 that is critical of Russia, or China or Japan or the Mongol empire etc.
