Ah, that old adage...
If you don't want topless pictures of yourself appearing in the tabloids, don't sunbathe topless. They really have been idiotic. |

My 2 cents
I'm not English. But I do respect the royals and someones privacy. The photos were wrong! That lowlife paperatzzi (or however you spell it) should have been shot out of that tree by the SAS security. I'm sure that his dead body would have a gun by the time the french police arrived. (And the camera missing).
When I copy photos from the internet or mags they are of ladies that pose of their own accord and for pay. The lady Kate had an expectation of privacy. We honor that here in the U.S. They are a young newlywed couple in the south of France. Give me a break and show some respect for them and the CROWN! This will go away, however, i'm surprised that this fine forum lowered it'self and published the photos at all. |

It's interesting how many responses to this are to blame her for letting it happen. She wasn't getting them out on Brighton beach, you know. I can't remember where I first heard the following idea, but I can remember the force with which it struck me: that the reason we so often blame victims is because if they weren't at fault, what's to stop it happening to us too? People who buy houses on the flight path of an airport should have known there'd be intolerable noise levels; benefit claimants can't be victims of circumstance but only of their own shiftlessness; women who are raped should know better than to dress in that way. Now I'm not suggesting that many members of this board are worried about being snapped with their tops off specifically, but we'd all hate to end up in a situation where what we'd like to keep most private was exposed to the public gaze (enter your personal example here). And maybe our reaction that she shouldn't have let it happen is our way of reassuring ourselves that there's no way it could happen to us.

I must admit, I'd also hate to be snapped while eating out that fat bird from the next street....!!! But then that's why I make sure we keep the curtains closed, and don't do it in her back garden..!!!

There's a great line from Aaron Sorkin in his oscar-winning script for "The Social Network." He writes Mark Zuckerburg telling the Winklevoss twins' lawyer, "If your clients had invented Facebook, they'd have invented Facebook."
You know how you can tell someone's invaded your privacy? They've invaded your privacy. They've breached your walls, picked your lock, been inside your compound. If you can plainly see what's outside of your private territory, what's outside your private territory can plainly see you. That is not an expectation of privacy. Perhaps the other female members of the Royal Family could show solidarity with Kate & get topless too?

The rules are simple to any royal, celebrity, sports star or anyone in the public eye, if you take your bra off someone will photograph you, if the picture is taken from a public place like a road you have little chance in the courts. Kate may have thought she was safe but with modern lenses no chance however as we all know the quality was so poor she was barely recognisable. in future she'll probably leave her top on if she's got any sence if not i hope the quality is better.
