Oy vey chaps , Greenman here
Burnt Gefilte fish ,such calamity we are again having to cope with already !.
Feel fortuitously fortunate to announce I have as yet been spared the ignominy of an unkosher mix up.
Naturally problems like these never occurred when I was a Mod. Back then everything ran as smoothly as a matzo ball down a well oiled bowling alley. Mazel Tov

Rather stereotypical MJ-no one I know speaks like that, and that also includes the word ALREADY! - that was an invention of film and television where ignorance of the faith shines through. And yes when I was a Mod it was quite smooth because a) we didn't have so many members as today and b) problems were few and far between, although we did have a lot of very bad posts from some rather stupid members who then weren't incidentally oy vey is yiddish much as kvetch and that plus other words have crept into the English language...ALREADY! MY LIFE!

Hmm curiouser and curiouser said Alice. Yeah well I would never big myself up by talking in the third person either or is it first? Anyway I would just to access the USER CP instead of waiting an eternity for it to load up-any chance of that happening lads?

I'm thinking you didn't spend time in New York City, Lower East Side of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens. The film/TV guys didn't invent it. They're not that smart. They got it somewhere!

OC, once it's all over mass media, next generation would rather Die than talk like that. Why a youngster like yourself never hears it.

As Jenny said, it's not a hack. It is a rather nasty issue that may or may not happen on forums every once in a while.

I remember like 8 or 10 years ago at some forum where I was a moderator, one shitty day the forum software went mad and did exactly the same that happened here; in that case, the cause was too many members browsing the forum through the same proxy (yeah, it was a porn forum, heh).

Nope nearest I've been to USA is Las Vegas and then Florida mate.
It was used a lot by so-called Cockney Jews(Davy Kaye, Bernard Spear and yes even Sid James) in films and television here, especially if the Jewish character was from the East End of London. Particularly prevalent was ALREADY! and MY LIFE! as well as the over-used OY VEY! and the other one that crept into the English language KOSHER meaning good or okay, used really to describe food that had been correctly prepared. Stereotypes abounded in British television and even the same way of 'talking'. One particular phrase irked me "Oi! That I should live that long!" Agan I've never heard anyone use that but some yiddish expressions were and the practice of pretend spitting on the finger followed by an unspellable word(sounds a bit like can-na-nah horra!) but I'll have to ask my mother that because it is a dying language these days.

However to get back on track. This forum suffered a hack several years ago and forced it offline for a long time. I also once belonged to another forum 'thecelebforum' and they also suffered BUT they had a backup website so members could access it via a new link until it was back up and running. They also lost thousands of videos because a certain website caught them out and decimated many many threads due to a 'takedown or else' decree.

Sorry if I seem to be hijacking this thread, but I'm just noting that vef urls have been switched back to the "other" ("SEO"?) form, but they do not currently work, i.e. forum and thread links take the form:
Code:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/f19-information-amp-help-forum.html
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t282737-what-is-going-on-mods-take-notice.html
but trying to follow them as hyperlinks produces an error in one's browser (404 not found), and one has to manually change them back to this form in order to navigate the site:
Code:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=282737&page=2
I assume this is not an error but rather the result of the techs. experimenting with the vBulletin plug-in(s), trying to get them to work. My question then is: why are they doing that on a "live" system like this? As a graduate in the study of computing I know that's thoroughly unprofessional--whether as a programmer, a systems administrator, or a project manager. Such "teething" problems should be worked out as much as possible on a back-up/duplicate system with limited data sets & just a few test users. Once all "wrinkles" are worked out there, only then should one install upon the live site. There may still be additional configuration wrinkles then, but they should not be of this kind of basic form.

Are these people actually trained/qualified computer systems technicians? There seems scant evidence.

Although I see that the URLs are of that form, they're not producing that error for me, at least at the moment. But I do find that about half the times I try to go to my User CP, I get 'The connection was reset'. (Greenman mentioned a problem earlier in the thread with the User CP but that was slow loading, so perhaps not related.)
