This is a vintage porn site and while I don't have any control over how thanks are received I will discourage the advice to simply make some garbage posts in the discussion threads as a work-around to the 150 rule. For those who don't know I've taken on the assignment of running the Model ID Request section and I can tell you this rule is necessary and will remain in effect.
Put that way.......the 150 rules makes alot of sense. I've been here
over 5 years, so obviously the rule was in effect long before I got here,
so I've never experienced the glutton of requests you guys both spoke
of.....
which means of course the rule is working like it was intended to. Thanks
to both ya'll for explaining that to me.

As far as the discussion forums and gathering up "thanks" totals though,
not changed my mind as of yet, if ever. Not to say that helping someone
doesn't deserve thanks, only that a great many appears to have gathered
their totals, by basically nothing more than chatting in a discussion thread.

Also kinda felt that BJ was gettin' picked on, for just asking a question,
and no one likes to see that happen, regardless of their ability to speak
English.

Anyways......never afraid to admit when I've been wrong.....thanks fellas.

You should never under estimate the value of the non-content areas
of any forum in keeping it alive

Their often the difference between where someone chooses to share their collection

I know on one related fledgling forum a few years back who had plenty of link dumpers
and nobody else....akin to a ghost town...those running it were pulling their hair out trying to ignite any sort of community...thanks has been the bait used for the past decade to attract members

On busy forums where request numbers are always large they introduce limits on requesting

Only 1 request for every 10 content posts is typically how some forums balance the scales
- they delete those that they deem not entitled

I very much agree with Buttsie. There are many ways to participate in this forum that don't exist in other such venues. The intellectual level of the discussions of course varies but I think that we attract some really bright, educated people.

Some seem to spend all their time in historical type threads and I think that's great. I'm much more of a picture poster here but I like to dip in to a conversation occasionally.

Have Fun!

Is it? The vast majority of members have made no posts at all and never will. Let's not knock those who've made at least some. If someone was attempting to get 150 thanks and had only managed that much, that would be different, but that's obviously not the case here.

I've noticed that's often the case, that the asker of a question gets fewer thanks than the various answerers - even when the answers aren't very good. Odd, because you'd think all the people who've made the follow-up posts would be thankful to be given that opportunity.

I spend a lot of time in those forums and I don't regard them as second-rate. Just because something started under a certain title doesn't mean that it has to confine itself within those limits for the rest of its existence. You could equally argue - and some do - that the whole Modern section is superfluous, just because it isn't Vintage, but it obviously meets a need.

I didn't see that suggestion being made. Garbage discussion posts don't usually get thanked much anyway, and they're no worse than making garbage content posts, eg those where someone has just scooped up unconnected images on some theme or other and poured them in no particular order into a thread with a name like 'Girls with shoes', downloading which would be considerably less useful than the same amount of time spent with Google Images.

Exactly! I could have stayed a non-posting member, or even never have joined at all, if all I wanted to do was download Vintage porn. It was the sense of community, of being part of something, that attracted me. The 150-thanks rule is there to ensure that requests are made by contributing members, but let's not too narrowly define what that means. Perhaps some people don't have a vast collection of porn they can draw on, or they might find that someone has posted everything in it already, but yet there may be other ways they can contribute; for example, they could give answers in this kind of thread - for which, all of you, many thanks!
