I'm using Easynews as Usenet provider and their web interface decodes files inside rar files. That's how one mp4 file looks like...
Greetje27-California Reamers - [10/43] - "Greetje27-California Reamers.part09.rar" yEnc (1/52) (2448_1_Lrg.mp4 AutoUnRAR) [header] [thumb]

Many many Thanks to all of you who took the time to give me these infos.

The most frequent answer : these .mp4 files are not spec compliant no matter what you try (the moov atom is a very central part of .mp4, and its missing in these files) and therefore simply cant be handled by normal .mp4 tools, which are following the specs Therefore the only solution is to find out what tool created that file by writing to the poster. To Xxphd : I get exactly the same tables that the 2 you posted. On the 2nd one, are the 4 parts of the movies but they do not play. I tried to convert the .mp4 files to .avi but I got this message that confirms what is underlined above. You remember Monty Python : My brain hurts ! I'll quit on that one. Anyhow I better get informed before going back to the binaries. Too bad they have many things not found elsewhere. Thanks again to all of you. |

Now what are the odds that your first time on usenet you manage to download the only movie on usenet that no one has been able to decode? At least it doesn't look like a total loss. Looks like you got a couple of nice pictures there,,,,,, of the movie you can't watch. :c( Aren't computers fun! :c)

I recommend to subscribe to a usenet provider who offers both NNTP and web browser access incl. previews of picture and movie files.

Quicktime says it ain't a movie file and this is what I get in MPlayer (which usually plays about anything) I assume it's simply a bad DVD rip

Been using usenet for several years, and frankly I cheated and use an automated tool that makes it pretty much a click and wait procedure.
http://sabnzbd.org/ I use a firefox plugin with this tool (on their site I beleive) that captures downloaded nzb's and sends them to the program that then downlaods. A little setup is involved, but then it unpacks/repairs/etc. everything if you want it to. It runs a little webpage for you to configure and monitor stuff so if you want to you can control via web, or keep it safe and just from your machine. You have to use a nzb provider like newzbin/newzxxx nzbmatrix/nzbxxx etc. but there are many My only real problem is that I never find the stuff that is in these boards there.....maybe I am just not looking in the right places. |
