I have a dog myself and I can't stomach sad dog stories. Really sorry about your loss.

I just learned about Tobe Hooper's passing.

This and George A. Romero, 2017's just a bad year for horror directors, and then go back to Wes Craven's passing, ahh, they're dropping like flies. It's especially painful because I really don't see who can carry the torch, the closest in a somewhat big Hollywood scope is Adam Wingard (along with writer Simon Barrett), but his recently released Death Note movie is getting lambasted big time, so, damn. That really leaves just diving into indie horror movies and hoping you find some gems. I found one personally this year with Deathgasm, but again the era of classic horror filmmakers is sadly gone and now the pioneers are leaving the world as well.

Hooper in particular, I really liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre, still need to watch the second movie. I loved Lifeforce, really crazy and loud past the halfway point, worked really well. Poltergeist may be my favorite of his movies, it has the Hollywood studio feel, a successful pairing of his direction and Steven Spielberg's story, and pushed the boundaries of PG. That's all the movies I've seen of his, but will definitely check out some more, in particular his 70s and 80s work. May he rest in peace.

Mercer's death really bothers me. Someone as aerobically fit as he was isn't supposed to die of a heart attack.
