Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81.

I will remember her for her sharp wit and her even sharper tongue.

IIRC. Joan Rivers once asked Joan Collins, condescendingly, when a guest on her show, who was the best lover she had ever had. Joan Collins without missing a beat simply replied, 'your husband'!

Ouch!

Women!

I remember Joan having her own show here and one of the guests was the late Peter Cook. She also appeared on Bob Monkhouse's comedy talkshow and had him in stitches. I didn't always find her that funny but I remember her joke about going to a doctor and the line "Dr Schwartz at your cervix!" She looked terrible later in life almost like the sister of Jocelyn Wildenstein(who also had a lot of face lifts) but she took the mickey out of herself and slagged off others. She was certainly different I think the only other person who had such ascerbic wit was the late Phyliss Diller who was also outrageous at times. A true one-off was Joan and will be missed by all her fans, especially in this country as she was due to be on stage in a tour this year.

I'm pretty sure I've posted the clip from YouTube where she asks Samantha Fox if she's still a virgin.

IIRC, Joan's response was, "Funny, he didn't tell me that."

I do not wish to be insensitive, and all deaths under such circumstances are tragic, but his death was preventable - by himself!

I say this as someone who was a motorcyclist for many years. You do not ride like that, at those speeds on those kind of roads! It puts you, and others at risk, totally unnecessarily.

This is not the place to discuss the whys and wherefores, and my thoughts are with his family, but also with the poor driver of the car. He didn't want that to happen either, and that split second will be with him for life!

If you ride a motorbike, have fun, but do so carefully, and responsibly. And if you drive a car, look, and think twice! As a bike rider you have to think for everybody. My rule for survival on a motorbike was that everybody else was an idiot. I survived - some of my friends didn't.

I feel regret for them all in this incident. It's tragic, but preventable.
