I've created a league in cricinfo's fantasy league thingy to make the Cricket World Cup a tad more interesting.

The link to follow to create your team is:
http://espncricinfo.fantasyleague.com/Index.aspx

Once you've created your team and selected your XI, join my league (name: v-e-f) by using PIN ref 14429.

Default Cricket World Cup 2011

ICC World Cup 2010/11 | RESULTS
February 2011
21 Australia(6/262) v Zimbabwe(171 46.2) ODI Australia won by 91 runs
20 Sri Lanka(7-332) v Canada(122 in 36.5 overs) ODI Sri Lanka won by 210 runs
20 Kenya(69 in 23.5) v New Zealand(0-72 in 8 overs) ODI New Zealand won by 10 wickets
19 India(4/370) v Bangladesh(9/283) ODI India won by 87 runs

2 thrashings to start proceedings....reinforces my thoughts that the worldcup is too much about making money than actually providing the matches everyone wants to see. When you think this tournament runs 3 weeks longer than the biggest World Cup(football)I personally think they've lost the plot.

Edit

Hopefully in 2015 they will learn the lesson and put the minnows in their own Pool like they do for the Rugby Sevens with their own seperate Cup/Plate competitions for each section so like are playing like. Then you can at least gauge who is best placed to step up to the next level.

Its not like they cant afford to do the right thing and have the minnows play off against each other while the test playing nations play the real games

Expecting paying crowds to turn out to see floggings dealt out to Canada & Kenya is almost criminal

England bt Netherlands by 6wkts in their first World Cup match but they had a major scare as well as some bad bowling and 'abject' fielding.

The Netherlands are far better than they're being given credit for. Also ten Doschate played very well.

As for us with the exception of Swanny our bowling was rubbish. And our fielding was just as bad. Our batsmen did at least get started but, as usual they got themselves out. Hopefully this will be our worst game of the tournament. But we've got to improve or else.

An odd stat is that a host nation of the CWC has never yet won the tournament. On only one occasion (England in 1979) has the host nation even qualified for the final.

One would think that home advantage should be more important in cricket than in most other sports because of the nature of pitches, but 6 of the 19 tournaments in football's WC have been won by the hosts and 2 of the 6 rugby world cups. But it's 0 out of 9 for cricket's world cup, so far.

What an utterly astonishing game of cricket!

The chart below shows the betfair market's implied probability of England winning the match as it progressed.

Started at about 35-40%, fell to about 7%, rose to about 94%, fell back again to about 5%, and was then about 50% with only two balls to come.

I'd love to see what other match between participants in another sport where the probabilities swing so manically between each possible result!

England scored 338 for 8.
India scored 338 all out.

Yet this is a tie?

I was wondering that too, but I think it is.

The result of a match is a tie when the scores are equal at the conclusion of play, but only if the side batting last has completed its innings (i.e. all innings are completed, or, in limited-overs cricket, the set number of overs has been played or play is terminally stopped by weather or bad light)
MCC Laws of Cricket.

India should have batted out their overs.

Reminds me of that Aust-SA ODI when Aust batted first and scored 4-434.
The South Africans came back into the dressingroom after chasing leather for 50 overs. They slumped down on the benches, no-one said anything.
Eventually Kallis piped up:
"Well, I reckon they're about 10 runs short."

Much hilarity. Turns out he was right.
