Good news for Finnish Windows users
A Windows 8.1 user in Finland ( the country that brought us Linux) has been awarded €1000 (plus €100 "travel costs") in compensation after his computer automatically upgraded to Windows 10 without his permission.

Ironically, my wife wound up with 1809. Her gaming graphics card crapped the bed and she got a nice upgrade to that - it looks awesome, and I'm not even a gamer - but it wouldn't run on 8.1, so the vendor loaded her Digital Storm with Win 10. The latest version, of course! You know what I like about 1809? When you specify the Dark app mode in Personalization > Colors, now Windows Explorer and context menus all turn dark as well. Much easier on my eyes.

Woody on Windows: Microsoft starts pushing Win10 1809 update again
"It’s official. In the mind-bending (and internally inconsistent) quagmire that has become Windows updating terminology, Win10 version 1809 is now in 'phased rollout' but not yet in 'Semi-Annual Channel (not Targeted).' If you don’t want Win10 1809, get your machine locked down."

you should not use Internet Explorer as your default browser
According to Chris Jackson, security expert at Microsoft's
you should not use Internet Explorer as your default browser. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/...er/ba-p/331732 Microsoft keeps the IE in his system just for compatibility and for preventing users who don't like EDGE to use Firefox or Chrome. Personnally I don't use IE anymore, in fact since 2004, that's a long way. If you insist on using IE you take many security risks. This article by the security expert at Microsoft's is another proof that IE and EDGE are rejected by Windows users. |

Who is privately using IE or EDGE as default(main) browser Or does he (Chris Jackson) really thinks People are thinking: "Hey, let's try to use the MS-Browser with all of it's negative press and tests until it doesn't work out for me any longer" Very funny indeed |

But they do not want Microsoft 10 users to use either Firefox nor Chrome. So they keep having IE in their system but privately do not advocate its use. This is a new proof of failure for Microsoft. |

The reality is so many people just buy a PC, switch it on and use as is due to the combination of lack of basic knowledge and not wanting to take any risks with it stopping working. Likewise many are totally unaware that there are alternatives and / or assume alternatives are just for geeks not everyday users. Another presumption is that because they are free there must be a catch somewhere. I have used Firefox for at least 15 years with Opera as an alternative. Since a Google product I directly avoid Chrome. |

Soon we can see Linux Files on Windows
Next update for Windows 10 (build version 1903) could be interesting.
Microsoft promised to improve its WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux). It would enable Windows 10 users to accede Linux files. I remember trying to install on Windows a tool for Linux. I could download it but the installation was not allowed by Windows and I am not absoluterly sure the system is still OK. There are very good tools on Linux which it would be interesting to use on Windows. Last edited by Ernesto75; February 20th, 2019 at 01:14 PM.. |

Microsoft Store Hyjack Apps
Security firm Symantec has discovered that at least eight apps in the official Microsoft Store were secretly designed to use a computer's resources without permission. It totally undermines Microsoft's efforts to promote the store as a "safe source of software."
