The Hateful Eight

Watched this little gem in the early hours of this morning, a possible Reservoir Dogs western.
Is Tarantino running out of ideas?

This has to be seen to be believed the clips do not do it justice, an evil Princess wakes up after a millennia long sleep and with an army of bargain basement rubber mutants plans to take over the world, the only thing that can stop them is a volunteer Rayma who is turned into an enhanced superhuman Infra-Man
Despite all their powers most fights resort to kung-fu and gymnastics

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Sequels are usually given a bigger budget. That means bigger SFX,more memorable characters,a suspenseful and edge of your seat script.Kingsman: The Golden Circle falls somewhere in the middle of the aforementioned.

After most of the Kingsman are taken out Gary "Eggsy" Unwin / Galahad(Taron Egerton)
and Merlin (Mark Strong) team up with the american branch of Kingsman called the Statesman to take on Drug Lord Poppy (Julianne Moore) and stop her unspeakable plans.

Egerton and Strong work well together, whether their scenes were comedic or dramatic.Moore definitely looks like she's having a good time
The additions to the cast: Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, and Pedro Pascal are cool but mainly pushed to the sidelines

One of the best things about Kingsman: The Golden Circle is Eggsy trying to balance his personal and secret agent life because it plays out in some humorous ways.
The action sequences are mainly on point and fun.The script is super salty and at times inventive.

There are some predictable turns,i actually thought it was funny how the film kept dropping hints about something i figured out 30 minutes before the reveal.
Usually a villain has some type of interaction with the hero or heroes throughout the film, but this film oddly diverts from doing so for a long time

I like to think of the Kingsman movies being in a class of their own but some of this felt like borderline Austin Powers.

Fun but definitely not flawless

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Lego Ninjago Movie

About 15 minutes into The Lego Ninjago Movie i turned to my son and said hey this is Power Rangers !!
The similarities to PR are obvious but The Lego Ninjago Movie does manage to be charming and entertaining.
Lloyd Garmadon (Dave Franco) and his father villainous Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux),have a Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader type of relationship. Lord Garmadon relentlessly attacks the city of Ninjago
and Lloyd defends it as the green Ranger....i mean.... Green Ninja along with his friends and fellow ninjas
Kai (Michael Pena), the fire ninja; Jay (Kumail Nanjiani), the lightning ninja; Nya (Abbi Jacobson), the water ninja; Zane (Zach Woods), the robotic ice ninja; and Cole (Fred Armisen), the earth ninja.

With the palyful sounds and noises it was kind of like watching a child at play as the film plays out,and thats part of it's charm.
There are a lot of great jokes and sight gags that really worked.
Good voice work from the entire cast.

This is another Lego film that has that jumbled look to it.There is so much going on on the screen at the same time.
There was a repetitive feel that set in as the film reached it's last 30 minutes.
The film has just enough to hold the attention of adults and kids, even though some may have a problem with the changes from the original TV series.

Big Grin Hey stop recoiling in "I've been hurt before by the disappointing franchise so piss off " terror

As this

Isn't too shabby at all.
Granted it`s hardly the best either.
Then what do I know.
As happened to really like the second (Hopper rocked as did Caroline Williams legs) and Next Generation (Oh come on Renée Zellweger is beyond adorable in it).
Butt still
Here we're treated to another blink and you`d miss it blast of Leatherface as a youngest. Then we jump ahead a chunk of years after the twelve minute mark , to our slice and dicing hero as a teenager and the story starts.
Is the least bloody in the series that`s for sure. Only the acting is pretty bloody mostly great.
The cast is kept in place by the bookends of two determined (Not seen enough on screen mind) performances from Stephen Dorff as the sheriff and Lili Taylor as Ma Sawyer.

A research scientist is exposed to a large dose of radiation from a new isotope, it seemed there was no effect at first but he is kept under observation and soon starts to change into a reptilian beast when exposed to sunlight, great 50's monster movie escapism

I am watching what I thought would be a crap movie because Wendy Schaal is in it. Turns out to be okay with a lot of cameos by known actors and actresses. It is called Out There and is fairly good.

Default Les Filles Ne Savent Pas Nager

Les Filles Ne Savent Pas Nager ( 2000 )
" Gwen is a teenager living in a small coastal town. Lise is her best friend, a city girl who comes every year with her family to spend the summer. This year things are different though; at first Lise might not come at all, and when she does it is obvious that Gwen grew up faster than she did "

Interestingly , the actress that plays ' Gwen ' ( Isild Le Besco ) has had a longer career and is now a Director with 5 award wins to her credit -

I thought she was the best actress in the Film , whereas Karen Alyx
( the Blonde ) - has become a writer and her last film was back in 2009 .
It proves that talent will triumph over looks in the long run usually ..

anyway the Film was okay , but its known as a weird title
GIRLS CAN'T SWIM .. it was billed as a Lesbian Film , and there was damn little lesbian scenes there , despite the one lesbian kiss (rebuffed ) ..

The film is constructed in three parts. It starts with the story of Gwen, a flirtatious and perky blonde. The focus then shifts to Lise, a ginger-haired and depressed teen who has just lost her father. The two friends come together in the final part.
It's not clear what the point of this movie is. There isn't much of a plot.

As the two girls undergo mostly mundane experiences, it makes for rather uninteresting viewing.
Something out of the ordinary does happen towards the end, but it is so bizarre that it seems to have been added just to have a big finish.

overall 5 out of 10 .. seen much better from French Cinema -
I guess I was spoiled by BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR ...

Default Mad men 1&2

I just finished the season 1 and 2 of the TV serie "Mad Men".

I'm 20 to 40 years younger than this generation (the generation of my parents) and it's interesting to see how American bourgeois lived and worked.

They didn't care at the ecology, they smoked like chimneys, they drunk alcohol like empty holes.
Black people still were discriminated and the women of the bourgeoisie were bored at home or had a second-class job in the companies.

Not the best serie, but nice to watch until now.

Lightbulb My opinion is being coloured by the chap it`s appears they've lined up to play Venom

Hmmmm ,

Liked the padded yellow sleeve nod to the Shocker . Didn't like that they replaced the actor who fitted fine for such a hot headed character. With another that was much paler in comparison (Nearly ironic considering it`s a black actor). Didn't like just the single vibro gauntlet either.
Thought Keaton brought a similar gravitas to the film as Defoe did in the first original.

Felt Holland did an alright job.
The story though ?.
As with the movie as a whole it was competent.
Still prefer those 2002 and 2012 ones though.
I`d have preferred our villain to have succeeded and for him to have made his own suit.
On the subject.
Could have done without the Iron-Spidey-Man suit.
Now I know why this Spider-Man doesn't display any Spidey sense.
He doesn't bloody need it with that inspector gadget costume

I`ll give it a watchable two but for me it`s got no immediate repeat viewing value I`m afraid
