Just a minute. That makes no sense.

If we are talking about EU citizens in this thread, then they cannot be illegals.

Not yet anyway.

Hard Lines ? Worthy of Boris Johnson, I did wonder on the 16th of June,That's why I voted stay...
However this plays out,I suspect that I shall remain unconvinced..

Unlike Boris, who talks shit a lot, I honestly think I am telling it like it is. 23 June 2016 was an irrevocable decision either way and a permanent choice of strategic direction. I found that moment harder by far than any other vote I have ever cast, and the reason why it was so hard was because I had to choose what I thought to be best for my entire country (not selfishly for myself) and I had to choose forever. And frankly, I didn't know which way I should choose; I really didn't know. I only knew that I had to vote; I could not have lived with myself if I had abstained. I don't know how any Remainer who failed to vote on 23 June 2016 can live with themselves now.

Certainly, for them it is hard lines now. At least you voted Mal. You have nothing to blame yourself for or regret on a personal level. But on a national level our choice is made and if it was the wrong one, then that's hard lines too. Since we cannot go back, our correct choice now is to go forward and (as far as we can) pull together for the good of our country and of our future generations. Insofar as I have any part to play in this process, however humble or small, then that is the part I intend to play.

Those of us in businesses that export actually want to delay it or a transitional deal that goes on for as long as possible (which looks more and more likely) That way we benefit still from the low £ exchange rate until any tariffs/barriers come in. If tariffs do come in we'll probably give up exporting like most of the rest of the UK, that will probably end the business so the closer to retirement age this happens the better for me.
IMO late is as good as never, nothing to be gained from anything happening quickly even it is an unlikely free trade deal.

I don't have any emotional capital invested in rushing the process. A transitional period seems self-evidently sensible; of course, it depends much more on what the EU wants than on what Britain prefers. There are far too many detailed matters to agree and to implement to have any realistic prospect of it all being done and dusted in two years. We have to get on with the stuff but two years is not a long time. I just wonder what sort of extension, if any, the EU will entertain.

As ever, the politician tailors his music to the tastes of the audience. Now that Mr Cable has gained the Lib-Dem Leader gig he has to tell the faithful what they want to hear.
