Why Are There Two Home Links?

Why are there two Home links on the front page?

Seems weird is all.

I see two too, but I never notice before since it isn't a big deal...

Hi there!

I only see one Home link, signed in on Firefox.

So I thought I'd check to see what happens using IE & there were two Home links just as casualobserver pictures.

I then signed into VEF on IE & the extra Home link vanished.
Signing out & refreshing made the second Home link appear again.

Since it only happened when signed out on IE I thought I'd check if that was the case for Firefox.
Signed out on Firefox & sure enough two Home links appear.

So two Home links only appear, for me, if signed out of VEF.
I would not have noticed as I mostly just stay logged in.

Oddly it looks like in that screenshot casualobserver is logged in with the double homes though.

What do we see - known serial pest adblock plus in play

Sounds like a browser issue

I'd try starting the browser with it or all add-ons disabled (safe mode)

Using chrome with ublock origin & script safe I only see home once
logged in or out

Hi there buttsie!

While Adblock Plus (seen in casualobserver screenshot, well spotted) may be what's causing them to see two Home links while logged in, it's not behind the issue I reproduced when logged out of VEF.

I know this because I don't use Adblock Plus.

I have very few plugins on Firefox since they killed the excellent old style ones but still tried Safe mode just to make sure & still get two Home links when logged out.

Also no add-ons at all on IE, where being logged out also produces double Homes.

Double Home links vanish on both when logged in, for me at least.

Not really a problem of course, just a curiosity.

EDIT: Also tested Waterfox browser (I use for excellent old Firefox add-ons) & see the same logged out double Homes.

Perhaps Chrome is immune to this glitch? It has been noted in a few other bugs' cases on this forum that Chrome was the only browser immune to those.

The other thing that has been shown to throw up some weird things

Your choice of editor in your user cp / options / miscellaneous (down the bottom)

I've never gone past basic but those changing to enhanced have reported anomalies

From 2012 - example of different browsers turning up different results

Missing buttons in editor hinting that its a coding issue

Firefox inspector indeed shows 2 homes, with a white space inbetween.
