recovering images from a damaged dvd

I need a little help. I have a DVD containing several folders of images that I need to transfer to my computer. Some of them seem to have become corrupted.

Does anyone know a free program that would be able to recover these files please?

Sorry to hear that, we've all got archives on CDRs and DVDRs no doubt and relied on these media.

Have you tried cleaning the disc surface? I've used "Mr Sheen" furniture polish, heard toothpaste works too. It might allow you a better chance of being able to read the files. As for software, sorry not aware of any stand out one, I guess try the disc clean first and then a Google search?

As others have suggested, try cleaning the disc first. Then you could try EaseUS Data Recovery, DiscRecovery or Roadkill Unstoppable Copier, all have free versions but with limited functionality. And then you would need to search for specialist data retrieval experts but that would probably mean sending the disc away and won't be free of course.

You can also try the disc on another system and compare the result. I have found some drives recover better than others.

I had decent resut with something called SkipDr DVD and CD Manual Disc Repair system that I bought on Amazon. It was not expensive. Be realistic in your expectations. As they say your mileage may vary.

It depends on what really happened to that DVD if the record layer is corrupted (coroded/delaminated), no help for the file that use the corrupted part, but if it is only the polycarbonate outer layer that is blocking the reading process you need to clean it and try different drivers as was said in post above me.

Good advice about taking extra back-ups but it is often not a question of not looking after the discs - they just seem to deteriorate with age even when kept in an environment where the temperature and humidity is held fairly constant.
