Religion is part of it as religion can and does attract that most dangerous of individuals the moral psychopath. But, y'know it takes a lot of will and desire to go out and murder someone who has never harmed you in any way, so desire implies well...taking pleasure from it? Is that the reason and all the rest (religion, ideology etc.) is just camouflage for a desire/need to hurt. Who knows?

Incidentally the best way to show proper contempt for these bastards is to go about your daily life and not cower in fear.

I chose the insanity option.
The next time you see one of those "martyr" videos after some fool has blown himself up, or some propaganda ISIS video urging jihad look into the speakers eyes.
They're always empty and blank.
Perhaps there's one area where Militant Islam is more efficient than other religions.
Cannon fodder production.

Mostly insanity I hope.

The vast majority of moslims do obviously not agree with terrorists. But this is a problem they should deal amongst themselves also. It is not enough to distance oneself and verdict those few ill-advised outcasts. What goes on in their communities no non-moslim will ever know until something like this happens. There must have been alerting signs beforehand, but nobody cared to stop them, or at least inform the authorities.

I was in a mosque once with a moslim friend of mine. There were many people talking, praying and interacting with eachother, but I didn't understand what it was all about (my bad). I know for sure that in some of our mosques hate and greed is preached, because hunderts of supporters of the IS rioted in my city (!) against the Kurds half a year ago when they were demostrating for more support for Kubane.

So I think we Europeans are kind of helpless against such amokrunners, unless the moslim communities self-regulate this nut-cases and/or cooperate with our authorities in order to put them out of business.

I'd like to see this particular guys in an ordinary court though rather than in Guantamo Bay, which I think is -legally speaking- more a concentration camp, than an ordinary response of justice. We should not give away our hard earned values because of such barbarians. This goes of course to the freedom of speech (and caricature) as well.

All things considered, I'd say the problem lies in the inherent destructiveness of humanity, which Freud described as the Id. We all have it, but most of us exercise self control and do not allow it to govern us. There is a part of me, and a significant part, which would like the opportunity to seperate each member of this Islamo-Fascist death squad from his genetalia using one of these:

And then re-attach the severed genetalia to the man's forehead with one of these.

But on the whole I prefer not to descend to their sewer level. Let these people and others such as they crawl in their own excrement while we continue to live in a civilisation.

This is the difference. Some of us were born and raised within a civilisation and some were not. It is not merely about wealth or standards of living; most of the 9/11 murderers came from backgrounds more affluent than many people in Europe. But they also came from an uncivilised background, fatally lacking in humanistic values. They were Saudis and adherents to the Wahabi sect of Islam, which is intensely bigotted and narrowly text-driven, with no recognition of ethics. This way of seeing makes it very easy to hate and demonise other people, and then of course to plot against and attack anyone whom you hate or demonise.

Such fanaticism is not unique to the Wahabi sect of Islam and neither is it unique to Islam in general; think of the Spanish Inquisition for example. As soon as you put the letter of your religion in front of the spirit, you are walking down this evil road. If you start to think in terms of right and wrong rather than in terms of "My God holds the gates of heaven against your God", you would soon ask yourself why you would agree to worship such a wicked and violent, tyrannical God and exalt hatred as a virtue; this "God" is actually Satan, pretending to be God. But why does anyone choose to worship such a travesty of God? I think it is because anyone who would is himself an evil person and wants a God which conforms to his own image.

The root cause it seems to be the state of the overall society of the planet earth.
Pain and suffer of one part of humanity while at the same time
pleasure and joy of another part .
This could eventually through several steps of developement throughout the years lead to constant wars, terrorism, killings and bad things in general, which our short known history confirms btw.
Add up to this seems to be the fact of reasonable doubt about the actual will of a world leaders , either politicians , bussinesmans ,religion members ,to solve those problems although it seems it could be done if such strategy would be defined on the the planetary level.
Maybe it's utopia but think about it.
Lack of perspective and guidance in life if needed, is I guess very good reason to trigger someone's emotions in one way or another.
If you are happy with you and the world around you ,I don't see a reason why would you do anything else then not doing to other people the things you would not like that they do to you.

Who's to blame? Well. Partly the French government.
When you have un-armed police patrolling the streets on bicycles you are asking for trouble.
They also have very strict gun control.
And yet these islamic terrorists "which president B.O. of the US still refuses to call them" Managed to get their hands on AK-47's.
So much for gun control. Evil people will always find a way to get their hands on firearms.

Meanwhile back at the N.Y. Times here in the USA the liberals at this paper aren't worried about the terrorists so much as they are worried about the right regaining power over this incident.

In truth I hope the French nor anyone else never captures these animals and brings them before a European court for justice.
I hope they are found interrogated and then slaughtered in that order for their actions.

It must be Religion.
What the Islamists are doing is nothing different to what the Christians did to non Christians and non Catholics several hundred years ago. Then it was done in the name of God. Now it is being done in the name of Allah.

My Mother is long dead but she always said that the next World War will come but it will not be fought by Nations, it will be back to the olden Days, Fought by religion.

You cannot blame Islam. It's such a peaceful religion. *cough*

At least they aren't taking out skyscrapers over here any more.

Nothing of all this.
Just young guys,no education or culture, lost, who have never listen advices, make no efforts for anything,so easily "brainwashable",recruit by extremists clever puppetmasters, using religion as predators to kill anyone who disagree so everyone!...
Result:Paris or 9/11 or etc.
Here all the nation is shocked.
Stop crying:act now.
Only solution as war vs nazis :delete.
