There is something that can be done - by a moderator with rights over the thread. Make a dummy post, then hard delete it. I only stopped fixing it that way myself because I could only soft delete, which made more work for the moderators, as detailed on what is now the previous page.

I fixed the thread. Most of us have seen this happen before from time to time so you can let us know if you see the problem.
