Can anyone explain why most men, but very few women, find looking at images of lesbianism or watching lesbians in porn, and even more so lesbian sex in a real life situation, get sexually excited. I am sure it must go back to pre-Roman times, but unlikely to be a genetic thing as the survival of the species would find no positive use for it. I wonder when the earliest recording of lesbian sex was made, in written form. Obviously in more modern times it is no longer a sexual taboo so perhaps because it was thought of as a taboo that made it more sexually appealing and arousing to the males of that time. Also interesting is the island of Lesbos has links to female sex, but which came first ,the taboo or the island name.
History and especially sex in history has always been interesting to me but some origins are even more appealing. I think I was about 12 when I watched something on the TV that had a lesbian scene in it, plus the brief scene in Easy Rider also generated my curiosity.
Anyone remember their first realism of lesbian arousal.

I seem to remember from my classics days that the Island of Lesbos was home to the poetess Sappho - whose writings were quite erotic in nature although not necessarily overtly homosexual.

The term Sapphic also derives from this source.

Not sure if any of it was taboo. Yer ancient Greek was pretty tolerant of many "practices".

Thanks for that info. I think the taboo title came in with the scripture and rise of religion, except for the more ancient beliefs. Also the Victorians put a taboo on everything outside marriage.

What you see on screen is stylised sex with two women-in reality the women look more like men, dress more like men and usually bloody ugly or butch-the other one usually can't bring themselves to cut their hair short so leave it. Opposites attract but seriously REAL lesbian sex would be very unsexy. If you got two girls/women in reality who were real knockouts having sex then yes fair enough it would be a turn on, but that is pretty rare. It is mostly fantasy peddled by the porn makers.

Real sex with two women would be a turn off-same with men, you rarely get two handsome men with muscles and good looks-it is normally some overweight looking middle-aged man with a younger person or the same age - again more a turn off. Let's face it, the demand for so called lesbian sex is there and it is catered for but with models especially on the Net. It is hard to even believe people actually think it is real, but hey ho each to their own.

The Greeks had no concept of homosexuality and few taboos,Sappho had more male lovers than female.Any taboos against Lesbianism are minor compared to that against male homosexuality.Lesbianism was never illegal in the UK and was apparently tacitly condoned among well bred young unmarried ladies,It relieved sexual tension without unwanted pregnancies.

I'm not at all au fait just making the comparison with women thats all-doesn't do ANYTHING for me at all. Just hate to see people conned by what they think they are seeing when in fact its not.

When I fantasize about two women doing it, or watch "lesbian" porn, the women are never actual lesbians. I like to think, or imagine, that at least one of the women is straight. So it's not so much lesbianism that excites me, as is the thought that these women are being promiscuous -not afraid to experiment in the bedroom -and I think the idea of a really promiscuous woman is one that excites any male.

I've know 6 real life Lesbians in my life.

Some were straight and got tired of the BS from guys so they turned Lesbians: it's not they didn't like penises, they just didn't like what is attached to the penis.

Some never been with men and were Lesbians since they were old enough to be aware of their own sexuality.

Of all 6 that I known, they don't even like being with women.

If you ask them what they do with their girlfriends: french kiss, cunnilingus, etc etc, I've gotten answers from "it's not like that" to "we only see each other twice a month and we don't even sleep in the same bed" to "we just cuddle, we don't even kiss or have sex."

"But you are both Lesbians, right? Both of you have never been with men sexually?"

"Yes, We are Lesbians. We also never been intimate with each other but she is my girlfriend and I am her girlfriend."

I even asked them about strap on dildo and she told me that's a guys' porn fantasy thing.

Most lesbians or bisexual women, according to her, do not use strap on dildos on each other.

It's interesting to hear about other people's opinions and also the insight into real lesbianism. I worked with a23 yr old blonde, who was drop dead gorgeous and I nearly dropped to the floor when I was told she was one. Her partner was about 5 yrs older and looked like a right ugly cow, more of a manly face with short hair, but she had nice looking boobs. I never got info on what they were like sexually with each other but the pretty one was quite modern in her ways so I reckon she was in need of some stress relief. A couple of other lesbians I know in passing are very large women and their partners are similar. One got married but split up after a year to go and live with another les who looked just like her ex.
