Alpha France movies not on DVD (yet)

Many of the French movies released in Alpha France theaters have been re-issued on DVD, but a significant number have not.

A list of those available on Blue One DVD is here. Thanks to candela for that list.

Interestingly, several of the titles below are available in high quality from VOD sites, and have been posted at VEF in near-DVD quality, although they have not (yet) been released commercially on DVD (at least not in the original French).

I compiled the following list by checking the list at IMDb here and comparing to the list linked above. There may be other Alpha France titles not listed as such at IMDb, and so the list below may be incomplete. Many of the titles at IMDb are not the original titles nor the DVD titles, so a bit of sleuthing was required.

Does anybody know how come the picture quality and color always are so amazing on the Alpha France releases? There must be a vault somewhere in France full of pristine prints. Wish some American classics looked that good

In many cases, for the Blue One DVDs, they have them completely restored. There is a special video showing how painstaking (and involved) the process is, giving the example of La Femme objet. I belive that video is an "extra" on that particular DVD, if my memory is correct.

I listed all movies reported by Le Dictionnaire de Mr Bier as being distributed by Alpha France and reach 151 films. This list only includes French films, le Dico does not report USA films even if they were distributed by Alpha France.
151 is much more than what IMDb reports (95 +12 = 107).

I also made a file in excel format reporting the 151 films + the Blue One/Alpha France DVD list by Candela + the above list by Denaniel + the IMdb list. I did start reconciliating all of them but gave up, too difficult because of the AKA's (Blue One did not always use the original titles), because the US films are not in the Dico list and because Blue one did (I suppose) distribute on DVD films that originally were not distributed by Alpha France but by other distributers, for example :
Call Girls de Luxe (1978) = enquêtes by les films de l’étoile
Cathy Fille Soumise (1977) by les films de l’étoile
La Vitrine du plaisir (1978) = tout pour jouir ! by France Continental Films
Also remember that Le Dico is a great source of information but it is not PERFECT.

I searched many of the titles that I did not recognize, and made some additions to my original list above, 17 new titles in fact. Many of the original titles in your list are on Blue One DVD under alternate titles, but I had to search all three databases to find them (egafd, IMDb and encyclocine).

I made a separate list of softcore films (4 total) and also a list of films originally made outside France. Although you said the list was ONLY French films, I found 8 titles in your list that were French versions of American and Swedish films. In some cases, additional French footage was added, so in a sense they could be called French films, even if much of the footage was taken from a foreign source.

Another interesting thing I discovered, is that at least five of the films still not released on DVD are posted at VEF in near-DVD quality (presumably from a VOD capture):

Cuisses en chaleur
Les monteuses
Petites annonces très spéciales
Pornographie suédoise
Les queutardes

I hope that Blue One is planning to release these (and others) on DVD, and that they are just experimenting with streaming/download sales before the official DVDs are released.

You are totally correct, le Dictionnaire also mentions:
Swedish/French co-productions (the French producer being FFCM (FFCM- Films Français de Court Métrage - is the Production branch of Alpha France)) for:
Les impures (1973)
Les voyeurs (1974)
Parties carrées (1973)
Included in le Dico as “half” French films because co-produced by French producers

and what they call “cannibalizations” (adding French inserts) of US movies by Georges Fleury/Jean Desvilles for :
La grande sauterie (1978)
Le sexe à la bouche (1977)
Les limeuses (1977)

And by Claude Bernard-Aubert for
Pénétrations lubriques (1978)
Included in le Dico as French films because the cannibalized film was produced by a French company (FFCM an others).

Films produced for 100% by US companies, or companies from other countries, are NOT in Le Dictionnaire like f.e. Baby face or Café Flesh, even if distributed by Alpha France or at least distributed by Alpha France in their Blue one DVD collection (I do not know if Alpha France also first distribute them in French theaters and/or in VHS).

..and 2 not from VOD: "Aventures Extra-Conjugales" and "Jeunes Danoises au Pair".

This list only includes French films, le Dico does not report USA films even if they were distributed by Alpha France. 151 is much more than what IMDb reports (95 +12 = 107). I searched many of the titles that I did not recognize, and made some additions to my original list above, 17 new titles in fact. Many of the original titles in your list are on Blue One DVD under alternate titles, but I had to search all three databases to find them (egafd, IMDb and encyclocine). I made a separate list of softcore films (4 total) and also a list of films originally made outside France. Although you said the list was ONLY French films, I found 8 titles in your list that were French versions of American and Swedish films. In some cases, additional French footage was added, so in a sense they could be called French films, even if much of the footage was taken from a foreign source. Another interesting thing I discovered, is that at least five of the films still not released on DVD are posted at VEF in near-DVD quality (presumably from a VOD capture): Cuisses en chaleur Les monteuses Petites annonces très spéciales Pornographie suédoise Les queutardes I hope that Blue One is planning to release these (and others) on DVD, and that they are just experimenting with streaming/download sales before the official DVDs are released. __________________ Please PM me if any of my links are dead.
