It is not a frippery to be an independent nation. We are both descended from people who fought for that and it is not ours to give away. That is far more important than the economy, which ebbs and flows like the tide anyway, Brexit or no Brexit. We are not going to turn into Venezuela just because we have left the EU, and I decline to be worried about such a thing. There are real issues and real problems which we should worry about, but we aren't going to run short of food or be unable to function. We will continue to be ourselves and that is what leaving the EU is really about.

Our army has been beaten back after the French had capitulated and our political elite (as now) were telling us to make a deal at all costs. Then it was with a country led by one of the most vile scum that ever slithered across this planet.
In the end fate saw that one man rose to the challenge and it took five hard years and despite many setbacks the country held its nerve and, yes with belated outside help, we won.
There is not a single politician in Westminster at present fit to wash the underside of Churchill's boots.

Before any of the more paranoid remainers have a go at me for jingoism, which it is not, I am merely pointing out that Britain has been through far worse times and survived, even without our empire I see no reason why we cannot thrive outside the EU.

Will it be another Dunkirk, where you lose all your equipment, and can only evacuate men because Germany allows it?

Not to invalidate your valued war contribution, but in those days you had very powerful allies. USSR destroyed 80% of the German forces, and the Americans helped too. UK's contribution was honorable, but modest in comparison

Where are your allies now? Didn't you just trash them?

To be honest old chap you can throw as much revisionist muck here as you have done in other threads but the fact remains that in May 1940 (which is the period I was referring to) the USA was still refusing to get involved and Stalin and Hitler were busy playing footsy under the table.

My Science work for 20 years involved translating French and German.
I guess I will be able to afford the £6 visa (for 3 years) although other sources have stated visa-free travel.

I have to say my standard of living has actually improved since the referendum, it will of course be different for others depending on individual circumstances but I fully agree there is no general air of austerity, you will always get whingers no matter how well a country is doing though.
I've started to wrap some of the presents I have bought already and writing cards (not the 10 for 50p type either) and will be spending more this year than last year, austerity ???? Nah, !!! it jogged on.
