Well I use it all the time and have never had any probs. The free version does however have a watermark on the screen. I upgraded and have never looked back.

Use dvddecrypter to decrypt the dvd movie to your hard drive
http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ this removes macro vision protection/region coding and copy protection.. To convert to avi use AutoGK http://www.autogk.me.uk/ And heres a walkthrough on how to use it http://www.autogk.me.uk/modules.php?name=TutorialEN Looks like loads to read, but you can skip over most of it

Thanks for info but the download button on the dvddecrypter site just produces a '404' - page not found. Any alternative links please? |

I'd go for Avidemux for editing and DVDShrink for importing VOBs.

DVD to AVI/MPEG/whatever
I want to convert some old stuff I copied to DVD some years ago, so I can post to the group. I'm presently grappling with Sony Vegas, but I wonder if there is a more user-friendly way of converting my DVD. Mind you, Vegas looks very nifty, so, if there are any suggestions, I'd welcome them.
If this has already been discussed, perhaps someone could direct me to the appropriate thread. TIA |

I use Free dvd ripper to do this, not the most complicated or complete software but it makes the job good enough for my need.
