can't be this post either, cause he points on #536. so it's either this or an earlier one, since one or more posts were removed from this thread today.
important reminder: if you want to link a post, NEVER use the url displayed in your browser location, if it's located on a specific page inside a thread. this is very unreliable cause members can have different settings for post per page display - and moderators can add or remove posts from a thread - both could lead to a different page number than you would have linked to. Instead, simply use the link behind the post number: until that post still exists, such a link will allways work - for everyone. |

@penthousefan,
I've never used it but that Windows Movie Maker seems to edit (shorten) movies, isn't there a function on that or another freeware program that lets you edit by LENGTHENING or combining different videos, if they have the same format (WMV, m4v, etc) ? [/QUOTE] 1) I think you just open movie maker, then click on 'import video' and navigate to the film you want, movie maker then splits it into clips. Play each clip in the right-hand window to be sure you want it, then drag each clip you want from the centre section down to the 'storyboard'. Then play the assembled film by clicking on the little 'play storyboard' button which is just above the storyboard. If there is 'jerkiness' between some joined clips, click on 'show timeline' just above the 'storyboard' then move the right-hand edge of the clip slightly to the right, which should 'blend'/'fade' the clip into the next one. 1B) If you made changes to the first film, by cutting out some scenes etc., you may want to save this new version to your PC using the best quality you can. 2) Change the 'timeline' view back to the 'storyboard' view. 3) Open the second film and repeat this process, but add each new clip to the end of the 'storyboard'. 4) Save the joined film to your PC, using the best quality possible. Then burn to a disk. That's basically it. If something isn't too clear, just play about, you'll soon get the hang of it. If I can do it, anyone can.

Indeed - m4v files which can be played via VLC. It's the title of the thread that confused me though talking about 001 etc.
However, as hos said - for all we know, he could well be referring to a trashed post.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys...apologize for not posting sooner, I was able to join some files.
The other 2 that I wanted joined are apparently NOT meant to be joined -- it's the 1989 MTV Spring Break Penthouse Bikini Contest -- which I think you can probably 'merge' in a normal Windows or RealPlayer program or something and that's probably above my pay grade. Thanks again ! |

I also wanted to combine those 2 Penthouse Bikini segments from MTV but was told you can't. Unless you join them like 2 unrelated movie files. But it's not like 1 movie was broken down into 2 or 3 or 4 segments like "001" etc. They were 2 separate movies -- but since the 1st part was the intro segment I wanted them together for simplicity reasons. I play them both now but have to do each separately which is a pain in the you-know-what. |

then just use a video editing software. i recommend to first convert both files to avi (both with same settings for video & audio compression and video resolution) and then merge them with virtual dub. "open video file" for the first, "append avi segment" for the second (both actions from virtualDub's file menu).
you can also try tmpgenc, this should work with m4v, with is an apple format based on mgp4. you'll find the merge option in its mpgtools section. |

Hos, I must be doing something wrong.
I converted the 2 segments to AVI and they're combined only 40 megabytes (they were 250 mbytes as .m4v files). But that dubbing program is turning them into a 14 GIGABYTE-sized file !!!! I don't even have enough space left on my hard drive to save it if it completes it (pic quality in the dub viewer also looks alot more grainy than playing the 2 parts in my GOM player but again I haven't seen the completed version). I did the 2 steps you said above, but after the 2nd, there was no JOIN or SPLICE command. I just played it in the dub viewer and saved a copy on my HD but ran out of space the 1st time !! Estimated time is also 18 minutes but should be closer to 6 or so....and it's playing it back in super slo-mo as I dub/merge them. Uggghhh........ |
