Night of the Demon(1957)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050766/

One of my favourite movies on a DVD that also includes the shorter US version Curse of The Demon....
Dana Andrews as the disbelieving Psychologist investigating claims of a demonic cult and slowly realising that he has made a grave error.

Like one, that on a lonely road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turn'd round, walks on
And turns no more his head:
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.

While I enjoyed the movie something still doesn't sit right with me regarding the plot involving the mandarin. Seems flawed somehow.

Maybe by his very name The Mandarin like Fu Manchu envokes visions of fictional Oriental evil that are not as relevant these days as they were in the early-mid 20th Century.
The true modern day bogey-men are international terrorists and I think they tapped into that pretty well. It was quite a shock when The Mandarin was revealed in his true colours but I think it was a wise choice and I'd like to see AIM developed.

I can see how Iron Man fans might be annoyed by this portrayal of a major IM villain. If The Joker for example was portrayed in this way,I certainly would be.Perhaps a new character could have been created for the movie.

Animus (2013)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2431576/

Starts off looking like yet another found footage movie set in an asylum filled with ghosts but the real threat is from some mutated throwback. Better than its 2.3 rating at imdb would lead you to believe

There was.
SPOILER!!!
It's shows tony stark on a couch talking about his problem to bruce banner & dr banner says "I'm not that kind of doctor"
If you remember how the movie started, the screen is black & you have tony stark going through a narrative, i think it's a continuation of that, if that makes any sense. I've had a few beers by the way

Beowulf & Grendel (Gerrard Butler, Skellen Starsgard)
An adaptation of the epic poem, shot in Iceland. The story is told from a different angle than the various other cinematic attempts. In this one Grendel is more a victim than a villain. Hrothgar fills that role. Beowulf is not the boasting chest-beating super warrior as usually portrayed in other versions. Intelligent, humanistic script and cinematography that is stunning.
A very worthwhile watch.

Damn the Vue cinema, I hung on waiting just in case - then thought ok there isn't going to be one and left along with everyone else. At least it wasn't an Avengers 2 set-up.
