Default Glamour International Magazine --1980s "arty" publication

picked up two copies of this a while back, wonder if anyone knows about them.

This is a high quality publication, with an unusual 14" square format (makes it hard to scan, I will try to stitch together something). Very literate, text in at least three languages (English, Italian, French -- sometimes dual text, sometimes different articles in different languages)

This was published in Italy in the 1980s, and the well known illustrator Milo Mannara was one of the "co-art directors".

Others on the masthead

Gianni Brunoro (Director)

Two years later his first short story Pax Romana was published in La Cittŕ Futura, a weekly magazine published by the Federazione Giovanile Comunista Italiana and edited by Luigi Bernardi.

Gaetano Liberatore

Quote:
Born in Quadri (province of Chieti), Liberatore went to high school in Pescara where he met comics artist Andrea Pazienza. He later finished his architectural studies at the University of Rome. From 1974 to 1978, he designed record covers for RCA. In 1978 he met Stefano Tamburini and published his first work in Tamburini's comics magazine Cannibale. In 1978 Rank Xerox was born, a cyborg-punk, ultra strong creature created by Tamburini. Several stand alone hardcover albums ensued, translated in several languages.

Liberatore's work has been republished in several international comics magazines (Transfert, Métal Hurlant, A Suivre, L'Écho des savanes, Chic). The cover of Frank Zappa's The Man From Utopia album features an illustration by Tanino Liberatore, showing Zappa as RanXerox. In 1984 he drew the album cover for the New York City based ska band, The Toasters, first 7 inch release, Beat Up. During this time he also created a few 'one of a kind' pieces of art work for Toasters frontman Robert "Bucket" Hingley.

He has also done the art direction for films.

Default Milo Manara "Glamour Book 1"

bits of this may have been posted in other threads, but I wanted to post a link here to this. Its a 1984 compilation of Manara's work, and an example of ""Glamour International's" high standards. Laid out like their other books in a hard-to-scan 14" square format, this isn't my scan . . . but its one of the two scans of this publication I've been able to find. This isn't a regular "Glamour International" title, but its the same publisher and masthead

Some sample images and links to the entire book (not mine-- props to original uploader!)

Default Milo Manara "Glamour Book 2"

Second of Manara's two books for "Glamour International". A few samples and links to the whole book. Note that these books have excellent bibliographies-- a great resource for collectors of Manara

Props to original poster, not my scans, not my links

Default Glamour Wraparound Covers

One of the many quality production details of Glamour were the wrap around covers, usually one image that continued from back to the spine to the front. Found a site curated by one "Mr Giuseppe", devoted to fummetti, which has a few very nice pages devoted to Glamour, and somehow someone either had access to original art, or digitally or physically flattened the covers and scanned them.

Wonderful to have these and be able to share this very high quality work: molto grazie, Signor Giuseppe!
