A slight detour off-topic if I may?

Here in the UK we get a program called NFL Redzone on a Sunday night - I've been watching it on and off this season. I enjoy what I see of the games, but I confess to being often confused by the rules and regulations, the penalties given in-game etc.

Is there a good resource somewhere to better learn the game without being inundated with too much jargon? An idiots guide if you will?

Not to worry. I've been watching the NFL since the late 1950s and am frequently mystified by officials' calls.

Can we get a couple of dozen cases of that magic spray used on injured European footballers?

Forget the spray the bucket of cold water and sponge, players recovery from on field knock improved a 100% given the areas of the body that sponge had been.

My 93 year old father goes back to the very beginning with the San Francisco 49ers. I have heard the tales of Alyn Beals, Johnny Strzykalski, and epic but futile battles with Otto Graham, Marion Motley, and the original Cleveland Browns in the All American Conference.

We have seen an awful lot of bad Forty Niner football over the years, which is why Joe Montana is practically a god around here. The Dallas Cowboys didn't even exist back in those days.

And if I was the head coach for either team, neither would I. I can't imagine that a coach who didn't play any starters in the exhibition games before the season started would want to see his players get hurt.



Will the NFL move the Chiefs vs. Rams game because of field conditions at Estadio Azteca?

The NFL’s never been one to let hazardous field conditions interfere with its unstoppable corporate machine. How would you explain Dan Snyder’s Maryland mud pit or the carpet literally coming up in Houston? So you know things must be bad at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca if the league is weighing whether or not to cancel a Week 11 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams there because the field’s in such terrible shape.
As of Tuesday morning, no decision had been, but the league expects to reach a conclusion by the end of the day. The field conditions are a “significant concern,” according to Adam Schefter.
