When I was very young I used to watch all the great "B" horror and sci-fi movies. This was in the 1950's and 1960's. Most of these films were in Black&White. One of my favorite horror films was the original "House on Haunted Hill" which starred Vincent Price, Richard Long and Elisha Cook as the spooky caretaker of the house. I saw this film at the movie theater, and many years later on videotape. There is this scene when one of the woman characters opens her jewelry box and in it is this bloody head. When I saw that I ran screaming out of the theater into the lobby, only to return to my seat a few minutes later. I also saw at the theater two more of what I thought were the best Horror movies: the original "The Haunting" and "The Legend of Hell House"
The thing about horror movies in the past is that there were no scenes of blood and guts, which makes up so much of horror movies today. You don't need scenes of blood and guts to be scared sh...less, which is why I like the horror movies of the past much better than the ones today.

Abbott and Costello in "Hold That Ghost".
One of their funnier ones IMO. The scene with Joan Davis is just comedy gold as far as I am concerned. Then again I love almost every one of their movies.

'The Others' by Alejandro Amenabar. A masterpiece.

The Awakening

Official Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB8UAuGBJGM

One of the better ghost movies I've watched lately.

I looked it twice, because at first I was too busy drooling around while thinking about Rebecca Hall hunting ghosts in my bedroom...

The American Grudge 1 & 2.

I recommend The Innkeepers (2011). Don't watch a trailer for it they tend to be spoilery.

The Haunting, 1963.Black and white film based on The Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Just plain scary. I have not seen the 1999 remake, neither critics nor audiences liked it.

The Woman In Black. The 1989 TV version, not the 2012 remake. Scariest ghost movie I've ever seen.

Last edited by Sir Honkers; October 9th, 2017 at 08:46 PM.. Reason: as wendigo pointed out, it was 1989 not 2008. Don't know where I got that from.
