I would have thought that a special package would actually have been sent to the Russian Embassy with other diplomatic items and then passed on? And now HMG are saying that traces of Novichoc were found in the hotel. Does this make the slightest sense? Traces? But no inept and dead GRU agents alongside? And wouldn't professional killers be briefed on exactly how to dispose of a dangerous container of mixed and rather sophisticated nerve agent? Would you just throw it away somewhere in a busy public place, or at the very least take precautions to remove forensic evidence and perhaps have some means to neutralise the contents or simply bury the stuff somewhere out of the way?

Furthermore, the latest story is that a turned Russian agent code named Apollo has now identified both these men and HMG knows their real names. Okay, then lets hear who they really are. What's the problem? Why do these stories just seem to deteriorate into a mess of baffling information so quickly?

Yes - but re the Iranian airliner, the Americans didn't roll their eyes, shrug their shoulders, and say there isn't a shred of evidence that they did it and that any fool can see it was staged by the Iranians in order to discredit them.

The thing is Carlton, you are assuming that the Russian government and the GRU are rational and intelligent people. But if that were so, they would not have used polonium 210 and they would not have used Novichok. They wanted us to know it was them and they wanted to taunt us with their invulnerability - it is roughly equivalent to the 1950s Charles Atlas adverts where the jock kicks sand in the weakling's face to humiliate him in front of the girls. Today's general elections might be Sweden's fateful day. The right-wing Sweden Democrats are expected to achieve up to 25% of the votes. Although they appear like the average populist and conservative party, the Sweden Democrats were pretty much a refuge for neo-Nazis in the 1990s. Like with all right-wing parties in Europe, their success relies on pretty much one topic only: immigration. In fact, crime and violence have become big problems in Sweden and they're obviously related to immigrants from Islamic countries. Previous governments have been inactive in that matter for too long. They allowed fear to rule people's lives and no one is more capable of taking advantage of that like racists and nationalists. It's a trend we can see all over Europe.
