Well, I'd say "use Ubuntu, or any other Linux distro for that matter" - same as Macs, they can get infected but usually they don't.

I'm on Firefox with Adblock Plus, no other add-on. But back in the day when I was still on Windows, I used to have a customised HOSTS file (for those who don't know, more info here).

And of course... the best antivirus, anti malware and anti-anything, is knowledge. People like the OP can have antivirus, firewall, 5 security add-ons on their browser, and they could still get infected; while others with much less than that, don't get anything. People don't need to be tech savvy... they just need to know what they need to stay safe.

When Windows stopped supporting XP updates every month i just relied on Kaspersky and updating the Firefox browser all the time along with the addons. I never got hit with any problems at all even though the operating system was vunerable.

You need NoScript for Imagebam as sometimes when you right click to view a picture that was uploaded ages ago and save, a nasty website link to a virus will activate immediately in the address bar.

But you can tailor it to your specific needs by allowing certain scripts.

Can't seem to find a thread on here that deals with anti-virus software. I recently uninstalled kaspersky & am looking for an alternative on windows 7. Using window defender & malwarebytes in the meantime. Any recommendations? Was thinking Avast, but not sure.
