Default VLC Stalling with Dvds

Had a problem with a couple of Full Dvds I have downloaded from here , they both stall before getting to the menu in VLC and won't play at all in MPC-HC. After playing about I have found if I go to " Playback " then " Chapter " and change to the " Root " setting in VLC it plays fine. I just can't work out how to set that as the default setting.

These Dvds won't burn with dvdshrink / dvddecrypter or Nero

Thanx in advance

lagerlout,

I'm sure this isn't the problem but are you running a dual core processor with 3 to 4 Gb of RAM? I used to have those types of problems with older machines but not since I upgraded.

The VLC forums say this quite often

"without the technical specs of the clip / dvd in question we can only guess"

Thats before you factor in the unique set-up of any PC

One mention was made of region codes being a reason for why clips dont start automatically in VLC

My experience of many clips is no one player ever handles everything seamlessly because there are too many possible variations to cover.

Maybe trying like the free version of Power dvd and its ilk an alternative
to the plethora of media players

Didn't mention the dvd in question [ Note that it's Vob files ] as it only has happened on two, what I was really after is how to set the highlighted as the default.

After playing about I have found if I go to " Playback " then " Chapter " and change to the " Root " setting in VLC it plays fine. I just can't work out how to set that as the default setting in VLC.
It just resets to " Chapter " once I close it
