It was fun, as a teen/early 20s, to buy 40+/50+ mags from a lady serving who was 40+/50+ herself... hoping that she would be wondering if i was thinking about her in a sexual way?

Most of my early porn-mag buying adventures took place at a newsagents not too far from where I lived, usually to get either Mayfair or the UK edition of PH. Looking back, I gave myself ample opportunity to bump into people I knew!

There was a definitely a thrill, and the attendant twitching in the loins. It was a kind of intoxicating feeling, a mixture of the "naughtiness" of it all, together with expectations of what delights would be within the pages of the mags, and also excitement at this new pastime. I can't really remember being that concerned about who was working behind the counter at the shop, provided that I could buy the mags and make a quick exit, with the minimum of fuss.

One thing I do recall is sometimes wearing a coat or heavy jacket, even at the height of summer, in order to conceal my purchases on the journey home!

Later on, the novelty slowly began to diminish, and buying the magazines became as mundane and routine as purchasing a newspaper or a packet of sweets!

That was always the thing with buying top shelf mags. Waiting until the newsagents was empty then grabbing your mags and dashing to the counter and wanting to get served as quickly as possible so nobody could see what you were buying.

I remember buying a copy of FHM back in the late nineties in Belfast. Not a top shelf magazine but it did have a woman in a bikini on the cover. It was busy but I didn't think twice about buying it. At the counter the old woman serving me asked in a loud and stern voice if I'd like a bag for my magazine. I replied "No" but she said I'd better have one anyway and she proceeded to put it in a bag. With a line of people behind me in the queue, it was a very embarrassing situation and I almost felt like holding the magazine up and shouting "Look, It's NOT a wank mag!".

I talked about my friend, that ask his half dumb brother to buy or rent porn vhs for us; but my friend too was an hero, because he, whithout shame, when our hormones was going out of control and his brother was out of range, was able to buy a porn mag with a face like a stone mask. Very quick: take the mag (targeted time before), read and showing the price to the dude and give money (exact amount) in 5 seconds. Then escape with large walks turning around the box. Damn, I can't do this, ahah!

That was always a bit of a nightmare- but it's a funny thing, I can remember being caught up in a queue plenty of times waiting to pay a mag- but I swear it hardly ever seemed to happen to me in reverse- I don't have any great recollection of instances of being in a queue behind some embarrassed lad who was clutching that month's Men Only, and obviously wishing that I and everyone else in the shop were about a million miles away...

...except, there's one incident from my student days in the 80's that sticks in my mind- I was on my way to a lecture at uni, and called in at a nearby newagent for nothing more exciting than the daily paper and a fresh pad of A4, and as I walked in, noticed a young guy about my age scanning the top shelf, as you do...

Anyway, as I headed to the counter, there was a quite a queue, and he'd just got there ahead of me, with a copy of 'Fiesta'. At the end of the queue, there was a young woman (and an attractive one at that), waiting to pay for whatever she's bought- he walks up to her, they exchange a few words, which make it pretty clear they're a couple, and here's the bit that blew my mind- rather than queue up, he hands his 'Fiesta' to her, so she can take it to the till and pay for it!

I mean, I was barely out of my teens, and at that age, the thought that some women might actually be OK with their boyfriends looking at top shelf mags, or even enjoy looking at one with him was a totally alien concept to me.

Later on, I even wondered whether he'd sent in some pics of her for Readers' Wives, and if she might be in that month's issue, so picked up a copy for myself later that day- Sadly she wasn't...

Haha! That made me laugh. She sounds like the perfect girlfriend! Save your embarrassment and get your woman to buy your jazz mags!

Apart one broad minded and free thinking girl I dated for a couple of years, most of my girlfriends (including my current one) have been far too conservative and certainly wouldn't have tolerated paying for a top shelf magazine.

When I started buying mags and videos from an adult shop in the 1980's, there was a lady in her 40's with big tits who would occasionally be serving at the front counter. I would bring my stash of carefully selected big tit mags and videos (with the big tit models on the covers) and she unfortunately would hardly bat an eyelid.
I was too shy to make any thing other than small-talk but my mind was awash with fantasies of what I would like to be doing with her! I saw her once in a local supermarket and she kind of looked at me as if she recognised me, but I think she was very well practiced at not greeting her customers outside of the porn shop.
It certainly was part of the whole thrill of the process back then of the bringing your collection of mags to the counter making it fully obvious what you were into and the staff knowing exactly what you would be doing with yourself as soon as you got home!

My thoughts exactly, and was usually my strategy. Normally in a run down area far enough away from where anyone would know me.

I had a very similar experience when I bought mags and videos. The worst would be if a young woman was on the counter... But I used to go to a video shop where the owner was an attractive 40 something lady with big tits. I don't know what she thought about a teenage lad coming up to the counter with videos of mature women with big tits, but she had a nice smile and it seemed to me there was a glint in her eye when I came into the shop

That's interesting ... it seems that you had quite a tolerance for putting yourself in a queue; much more perhaps than other people. While I definitely got a kick out of being served by women, I'm not sure I'd have the balls (blue or otherwise) to get in a lengthy queue !
