On another note. Dwayne Wade returning to Miami. The question is, what the hell was he doing elsewhere? Some teams have got to understand that certain players are the face of their team/organisation. Wade was that at Miami, and him returning means playing elsewhere was just at waste of time. He should never have left, like Paul Pierce with Boston.

Yeah. Fair enough if he wanted to play in his home town. Too late for someone like Brady! Hopefully Newton never moved to Atlanta.

By all reports, playing in one's hometown is very difficult. Friends, which include the most casual of acquaintances and family make demands for favors, money, and tickets. Fans often place outsize expectations on local heroes, expecting the same level of dominance shown as a prep or collegian. Most athletes are better off playing far from home professionally.

I can only think of a few examples of an athlete doing well in his hometown. Bernie Kosar did pretty good for the Browns in the 80's. S Corey Graham had a few good years with the Bills, but he's a mid-level player, so not a lot was expected of him.

I think it was easier before athletes were paid obscene amounts of money. It bothers me when a sub-par player is paid more than enough to rehabilitate our local schools, but nobody made me king.

Maybe readers of this thread know that Chris Wesserling of the Around the NFL podcast has been suffering from cancer. The ATN podcast guys started a go fund me to cover his medical expenses. The target was $60,000. It's great to report that the amount has almost been reached in four days. A real testament to Chris's popularity.

Warriors Lose to the Kings, 3rd Loss in 4 games.
The Warriors now have Curry, Durant, and Klay Thompson out. Curry's ankle is being checked out next week, but Durant and Thompson are out for at least 3 weeks. Patrick McCaw has been out with a wrist fracture since mid-February. Draymond Green has a banged up shoulder and has been in and out. 34 year old Iguodala is playing with a wrist injury and has been dealing with a balky back. Rookie Jordan Bell is playing his way back into shape after a knee injury. This is what happens when conditioning is neglected.
Now getting away from the regular season grind for awhile might have the Dubs much fresher going into the playoffs. On the other hand, if most of the roster is playing hurt in April, they will get knocked off. As mentioned way back when human nature is to get fat and happy when you are a multi-millionaire. That's what makes Lebron, MJ, Magic, Kobe, Kareem, and Bill Russell so special. http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...postcount=7215 Rumors are also flying that Tom Brady may hang it up. https://sports.yahoo.com/tom-vs-time...205917534.html |

Report from the Playoffs.
Brad Stevens must be the best coach in the NBA. Of course, the even more callow Philadelphia 76ers are clueless defensively. Other than LeBron and company no team in the East looks ready to challenge the Rockets or Warriors. Dwane Casey really deserves better. Once again, it appears that Lowry and DeRozan have folded their tents. But I don't believe the Cavs have enough horses or have played together long enough to beat the Rockets or Warriors 4 times in 7 games.
Frankly, barring injuries, I don't see the Rockets getting by the Warriors, either. |
