I downloaded the old version again and have my old image downloader back. Oh I long for the good old days when updates and upgrades actually meant making things better

When I get home I go to the company website and find out that the product is still being manufactured, and they have a list of which stores in my area sell that product. Our stupid American consumer oriented economy is so competitive that store owners or mangers are deathly afraid that if they say "I don't know" to a customer, that customer may stop coming to that store and go somewhere else. That's nonsense , because customers do that anyway. There is no store that is so big that it sells every brand of every product made. I myself go to three different supermarkets for my food shopping.
If you check out wage scales for various occupations and industries it immediately becomes apparent that retail clerks and managers are paid pitifully low wages for dealing with the public all day long every working day. Therefore, more intelligent workers find a way to transition into better paying occupations, or at least better working conditions. Only those who lack the smarts to improve their lives remain in retail to provide clueless answers to customers.

I say, "Cut 'em some slack. They're doing the best they can."

I was also somewhat pissed off when I went to Staples to buy some refills for my Parker fibre tip pen, only to discover that they decided to stop making them and there were no more refills.
There must have been some change in corporate policy.

I remember a friend of mine, a professional writer, found an old Parker pen buried in the mud somewhere near Broadstairs on the Kent coast.

He took it to a specialist pen shop in London who declared it to be a "1947 Parker Newhaven Victory"

They said then (1990s) that all the parts were still available on application and the pen was duly restored. He still has it and uses it regularly - and it is very collectable.

Changing the clock in my car when the hour goes back

When it goes forward it's relatively easy just press a button and move the minutes forward slowly but keep an eye on it as it only goes forward

When I need to go back an hour I have to move it forward 23 hours and the button is small and awkwardly placed I have not bothered going through that daft rigmarole yet, I might wait till spring when it will be right again

Car parts should be available for 5 years after a new model is released and tend to be available longer than that, especially manufacturers increasingly sell new cars with a 5 years warranty.

Some manufacturers will not release specs to outside companies for "reengineering" for quite some time. They want to be the only source. Guaranteed income. It's kind of like a patent. When a patent expires, every Tom, Dick, and Harry jumps into the fray.

I'm old enough to remember when changing a fuel filter meant a screwdriver and a new $1.29 filter, and new hose clamps if you were a rich kid. Now, changing a fuel filter can mean draining and dropping the tank, getting a new sock for the in-tank unit (25 to 40 bucks for the part, 4 hours labor at $95 to $140/hr), or the labor plus $250-$350 for the whole goddamn pump/filter/sender unit. And that's domestic. Imports? A fuel filter can set you back $600, you best believe that.

And HID headlights? Don't get me started. Who pays a hundred bucks for a headlight? Ricky Racers in WRXs, that's who!

Case in point. Go find me CV axles for a Mitsubishi (AWD, not Front), or God forbid, a Kia. The cores on the remans are more than the part, *IF* you can find it.

Hear Hear

Pissed off as I am, for shops dropping certain products (whilst jars of sauce/ketchup can fill an entire isle) - I'd at least find some comfort if I could find these 'missing' products online or elsewhere.

I food shop at several different supermarkets - and, have made a point of venturing to shops I have never visited before - just to search for foods that have 'vanished'

Case in point 1 :-
Up till about 5/6 years ago, you could buy 'Rum & Raisin' ice cream choc ices. Had them since a wee lad. Then they vanished - you can't get them anywhere.

Case in point 2 :-
Up until a couple of years ago, I used to enjoy soft cream cheese 'with pineapple' - think 'philadelphia' but the supermarkets own brand.
Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Tescos - they all sold it.
Then, one day you couldn't buy it anywhere. They still sell 'flavoured' soft cheese - garlic / chilli / chives / salmon etc

Did an EU Law pass I missed, that cream cheese can no longer be combined with fruit ? I find it impossible to believe that all shops dropped it due to low sales (they were sold out often enough - so it must have been popular).

Is it just me ? or is some bloody bureaucrat meddling with foods ?

The game changed completely for firefox when Chrome was launched

It could either ignore the huge speed difference or try and catch-up which meant leaving
a whole lot of developers and their add-ons playing catch-up or quit.

Personally i'm so over this browser over that one

You keep a stable of them

https://www.techsupportalert.com/bes...eb-browser.htm

Firefox
Palemoon
Waterfox
Comodo Ice dragon
Sea Monkey

Kmeleon (light on resource usage)

Be very careful about going backwards to versions that have security holes

Upgrades happen mostly to close security

From what i can see Firefox is the only gecko based browser thats on a fast release schedule meaning all the others should be quite stable in relation to upgrades killing
add-ons....none will be offering the same number as firefox which might not be a bad thing

How broken the democratic system is,look you have Donald Trump as the US president, a guy like Roy Moore the alabama republican senate nominee(are you kidding me,look the guy up and he was told not to go to the mall years back cause he was chasing after 14-18 year old girls when he was 32 years of age and this A-hole becomes a judge). Now tell me there isn't something wrong with that system. The worst liars and thieves get to be put into positions of power, look at the Trump Family working in the White House,I hope the whole bunch goes to prison for treason especially Don Jr. and Jared Kushner.
No wonder the U.S.A. IS SO WRONG ON THE PLANETARY SCALE OF THINGS.
So many guns given to idiots will always be a recipe for disaster.
