Default Jeremy Corbyn: Student debt write-off not a commitment

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said that his party did not make a commitment to write off existing student debt during the general election campaign.

Mr Corbyn was responding to a question from the BBC's Andrew Marr about an interview he gave to music paper the NME before June's general election, in which he had said he was "looking at ways" to reduce the debt burden.

Mr Corbyn said that shadow chancellor John McDonnell is currently looking at the party's policy and will set out its plans at a point in the future.

During the campaign, the Labour leader said he would "deal with" the issue of graduates burdened with debt since tuition fees rose to £9,000.

He told the BBC he had never promised to abolish all debt as Labour "were unaware of the size of it at the time".

Tory MPs have accused him of misleading students and said he should apologise.

Historical levels of student debt in England since tuition fees were introduced rose to £76.3bn last year and senior Labour figures have said an across the board debt moratorium could cost in the region of £100bn.

At the time the Labour Party manifesto was being composed no one seriously imagined they stood any chance at all; therefore they were completely free to make wildly uncosted promises. I still feel aggrieved that they did not throw in a night of glorious passion for myself with Scarlett Johansson as a manifesto promise, but Mr Corbyn told me that I would need to negotiate directly with Miss Johansson and that the Labour Party had no policies on the matter.

So its only sex, drugs, rock and roll and really decrepit old cars which are reducing your life expectancy now.

The downside is that if you have given up smoking you won't get as good an annuity rate. Stalwart used to offer a really attractive premium annuity rate for heavy smokers and no doubt if you rolled up to their office with a really booming bronchial cough going on they'd jack up the annuity rate half a percent more.

Take your pension as early as you can after 60 years old, that way you may get more out than you put in. Wait too long for a higher amount each month and you will lose out.

23 years in insurance taught me that.

Start again and you will get a bigger annuity / pension. Just as long as you tell them because they know you are likely to die sooner.

Viagra doesn't give you a hard on (so I'm told). You have to get that yourself, then take viagra to maintain it.

So if you're not in the mood, viagra won't do diddley.
