Default Max Clifford

Another of the 'Untouchables,' has been jailed for a total of eight years when sentence was passed on him today. From what I know, because the offences were a long time ago, the judge cannot use today's laws to give out stronger or longer times in prison as some of the incidents would have constituted rape. The judge said he must serve at least four years. Any bets if he is out sooner though? Yet another one who remains defiant despite the conviction.

It all depends on how crowded the prison system gets. When it gets close to full a more lenient approach is used and many prisoners get early release, albeit with severe restrictions. However since the judge said he should serve at least half, before being eligible for parole its likely he will serve at least 4.

Also he is defiant in his views that he is innocent, which means that when it comes to a parole hearing he would likely be turned down. The vast majority of people paroled have to accept their guilt, they have to show remorse and a willingness to change. If the parole board feels that these are not qualities shown by an applicant it will be refused. So unless his views about his offending change again its likely he would serve at least half the time in jail but more likely he would serve a larger portion of his 8 years.

Wonder if he'll follow another ex-lags lead..... And write a few books while he's inside...?? If he isn't too busy dodging razor blades and other inmates more obvious 'weapons'....??

Its not up to the judge as to whether or not he does 4 years thats up to the parole board and the probation service. Even after release he will be subject to licence conditions, breach them and he could end up back inside.

His defiance won't do him any favours. Better to apologise and do his porridge

He will serve at least 4 years though because of how the rules work, if they have not changed over the years. Anything over 4 years sentencing results in loss of automatic half term release. So Clifford could only be released at the earliest half way through his jail term. The issues about him claiming his innocence though will likely result in him not getting paroled at the first opportunity. As you say he will also be under strict supervision and will be expected to attend various courses, polygraph tests and probation meetings. Miss them, refuse to take part and he could be back inside.

Is his career over? It has to be sure. He has no money worries anyway.

Polygraph tests? These are not done in Britain, and in fact they are inadmissable in English courts.

I would have to say its over after these last couple of days. Those that use his services are usually established stars or those trying to break into showbiz. Using his firm is not going to be a positive image for them and they would be much better of using another PR firm. Also anyone using his firm may well then have the media commentating about condoning his crimes and supporting a convicted sexual predator.
