I'm honestly surprised that many posters are getting their panties in a bunch over this. Many pornstars Live hard and die fast. Its not rocket science and it doesnt matter if a "reverend" wrote the article no matter how much hatred you may have for that title. Lots of Pornstars shine bright and burn out early in life just like many celebrities.

I guarantee you there are a ton of drug addict/alcoholic/sleep with hooker bankers and lawyers. The idea is to demonize the porn business or what ever your find socially unacceptable while not touching the sacred cows in their supposedly respectable professions. |

The adult film industry (and other branches of the sex industry) are high-risk professions and academic research into the life expectancy and into the risk factors is quite legitimate. The task for a serious researcher would be challenging though, due to the changing conditions of the business (a lot has changed even since the 1990s) and the fast turnover of performers, models etc; only a minority stay in the industry for the whole of their working lives, most go on to do other things or, of course, die young.
I will admit that the fate of the performers interests and troubles me; I consume the product and ought to care about the welfare of the people in films I watch. I could never watch anything in which John Holmes or Marc Wallice participate; Patient Zero, the pair of them. So I don't disapprove of the principle of this research, but I do suspect it is not objective and not academically sound.

I'd imagine a comparison of doctors in the public health systems around the world would turn up some equally disturbing figures of people who have taken their own lives and died young.
When you consider how many performers have been in the sex industry 129 deaths isnt a lot maybe if they'd done a little bit of detailed research and said X amount of performers had been in the industry for 5-10 years and the death rates amongst them far exceeded the publics you might take it seriously. I think what is apparent is those that are long time performers in porn tend to get away from the performing when they've made their serious money and go behind the camera. Making porn might be painful & degrading but the job is never mentioned in the most dangerous occupations |

Ok, I will play your rebuttal of logic. Drug addicted hookers, bankers, and lawyers may be Porn stars. Maybe only the first applies. Demonizing other professions has nothing to do with the source question of this topic. The source question by the topic creator was innocent, not demonizing. The study which he/she read and asked us for our own opinons was meant for discussion. If the article which the topic creator read was from a "Religionist", it makes it no less valid, no matter how much you hate Religion. If you knew anything about "Reverends" of Christianity, then you would know that the Church they serve would be the first ones to call for the death of Christ if he ever showed up in modern times. Cant gain Corporate followers by a hippie who loved sharing, pornstars and protitutes while preaching love. Not a good business model. |
