Default John Lennon: #9 Dream

John Lennon

#9 Dream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-rstOjonZU

So long ago
Was it in a dream, was it just a dream?
I know, yes I know
Seemed so very real, it seemed so real to me

Took a walk down the street
Thru the heat whispered trees
I thought I could hear (hear, hear, hear)
Somebody call out my name as it started to rain

Two spirits dancing so strange

[Chorus]
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé

Dream, dream away
Magic in the air, was magic in the air?
I believe, yes I believe
More I cannot say, what more can I say?

On a river of sound
Thru the mirror go round, round
I thought I could feel (feel, feel, feel)
Music touching my soul, something warm, sudden cold
The spirit dance was unfolding

[Chorus]
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé

[Outro]
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé

Dare - Days Of Summer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A822VX9Fi4

I saw her dance by the fire
On that summer night
The smoke was rising higher
Fading with the light
Like a spirit in the wind
Born to be free
She smiled through the flames
Come to me

And I remember
The sweet surrender
The summer's still in my heart
I'll always remember
The days of summer
The summer's still in her heart

There we lay beside the light
Until the early dawn
We were ships in the night
Lost in the storm
She was taken by the wind
Over the sea
The long days of summer stay with me

And I remember
The sweet surrender
The summer's still in my heart
I'll always remember
Smoke on the water
The summer's still in my heart
She was taken by the wind, born to be free
And I won't forget her smile

"Blizzard of '96" by the Walkmen.

It came on the radio as we took our dog to be put down, years ago. Its a sad song, Hamilton Leithouser was always a good one for an Irish wail, and somehow that song and that event are forever stuck together.

I have no idea what the song is actually about -- the Blizzard of 96 was a real thing and buried the East Coast of the US, but this seems to be something to do with the writer's relationships-- but for me its that event, which I otherwise don't think about. . . if the song comes on, though . . .instantly sad.

Lord Huron - In The Wind

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aici3qwzDKE

You've been gone for a long long time
You've been in the wind, you've been on my mind
You are the purest soul I've ever known in my life

Take your time, let the rivers guide you in
You know where you can find me again
I'll be waiting here 'til the stars fall out of the sky

When you left I was far too young
To know you're worth more than the moon and the sun
You are still alive when I look to the sky in the night

I would wait for a thousand years
I would sit right here by the lake, my dear
You just let me know that you're coming home
And I'll wait for you

Years have gone but the pain is the same
I have passed my days by the sound of your name
Well they say that you're gone and that I should move on
I wonder: how do they know, baby?

Death is a wall but it can't be the end
You are my protector and my best friend
Well they say that you're gone and that I should move on
I wonder: how do they know, baby?
How do they know? Well, they don't

If you want to try and understand the attitude of many white American Southerners I recommend you listen to "I'm a Good Old Rebel." Bad blood and hard feelings tend to filter down through generations. It ain't right, but it seems to be part of human nature.

“You may forgive us but we won’t be forgiven. There is rancor in our hearts…which you little dream of. We hate you, sir.” General Henry Wise CSA to General Joshua Chamberlain USA - Appomattox, Virginia, April 1865.

those white southerners should be pleased Northern capital brought them back from starvation and that the Reconstruction should have been tougher and whitey was let off the hook and went right back to killing free blacks....Chamberlain was generous after Little Round Top and helped wounded Rebs during that evening and night; the South may have some argument in certain states' right but the victory in 1865 and 1965, put an end to an romantic notion or practice of lynching-too bad it took 100 years. Now, b4 anyone gets all fired up, racism existed and exists in the North but the Union ended slavery and passed several voting rights act (and Ike sent Fed troops to Little Rock to stop the rednecks their stopping 9 students who wanted an equal education).

Couldn't agree with you more."State's Rights" and slavery are inseparable and the view of Blacks as subhuman property survived the war. The point of posting the song is trying to understand why some Southerners have held on to to the racist views of the antebellum era. For more than a few White Southerners pride and antebellum tradition go hand in hand. The North dropped the ball when Reconstruction ended with the shady bargain between the Democrats and Republicans over the election of president in 1876. We have been paying the price for not breaking up the plantations and passing the land out to freedmen and destitute White Southerners. 40 acres and a mule wasn't such a bad idea. 160 acres to match the Homestead Act would have been much better.
