Cool

Kevin here. Australia has Highway 1 the single longest continuous road in the world which is 14,500 km or about 9,000 miles long. This means that a car moving at a speed of 65 mph would take over 138 hours of continuous driving to drive all the way around the nation and I doubt anyone could do that in good health. If I lived in Australia and I was super rich like the late Mr.Big or his son Hiram Big(net worth: 400 billion dollars) I would build a monorail or mag-lev train which also would circumnavigate the entire country. This train could move at speeds of over 300 mph(482 kph) which would mean that a person riding the train could see the entire country in just 30 hours. Trouble is the cost of building such a train would be more than it is worth, because the land would be so completely screwed up from the construction mess. I doubt that even in the far future would any such train ever be built in aussieland. Too bad. What a sight it would make!

Maybe it is time to recycle the old Bronwyn Bishop riddle.

Q. What's the difference between Senator Hanson and a rottweiler?
A. Just the lipstick.

I'd be happy if they just modernised the Belgrave/Lilydale lines. Sick of hearing "Metro apologises for the inconvenience" when trains are cancelled due the weather being too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too windy, too sunny or a damn possum bites a wire and takes out the signalling system.

That kind of thing happens everywhere. Here in America the electric companies go crazy because squirrels have this compulsion to gnaw on things(it is in their genes to keep their front teeth constantly sharp so they can crack open nuts and seeds. All rodents have this gnawing compulsion) and the thing that squirrels like to gnaw on best is electric wires. Whoops there goes another transformer that knocks out power for a square block. Out go the investigators and they always find the same thing. An electricfried squirrel that was gnawing on a major electric trunk line near a transformer. Squirrels, don't you just love them. My favorite furry American critter.

The ancients thought it was a rabbit, which is far easier to see IMO.

Is that true ?

Betelgeuse glowing orangey red in the top left corner of the constellation of Orion in this drawing would become bottom right ?

Turns out it is .
Australian night sky maps show it like this in this photo I've discovered .
I'd like to see that for real .
