I am wondering where you got the information that Anders Breivik used an AG3 in his attack? (AG3 is a variation of the HK G3/HK91 type weapon - 7.62x51 round)

I recall that he used a Ruger Mini 14 (a civilian weapon in 223/5.56mm) and a Glock pistol. This still seems to be the contained in at least these sources. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_attacks http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...ruger-mini-14/

Of the 77 people who died in his attacks, 69 died on the island. 57 of the dead there were shot through the head. Survivors stated he went around shooting the wounded in the head to finish them off. I don't know how many he killed with the rifle and how many he killed with his pistol.

He supposedly said deer hunting was the reason he bought the 223 Mini 14 and he joined a pistol club to qualify for the Glock. I have not heard that Norway has blocked people from using these same means to acquire similar weapons since the murders.

That aside each of the articles I listed and many others show how lives are lost due to carelessness, like it or not the media has a duty to report these events and if after all those incidents people still cannot grasp the fact that weapons are not household tools then maybe it's better to give in and buy shares in the makers of Kevlar.

Many states have laws requiring guns to be locked up if small children are around, but they were seldom enforced if a child was injured. I see a few cases in the news every once in awhile, but not a lot. Hard to arrest crying parents when they have still have to bury their offspring.

That is true but it actually ignores the actual issue I raised, which was that ALL the cases I noted above were of children killing or injuring their parents who were too stupid to keep their guns safely away from their children's hands.
As I noted above "Imagine growing up knowing you had killed one of your parents."

Well, short of banning firearms, what can legislators do? They pass laws to require firearms to be locked up if small children are present.

If your parents are too stupid to lock up their firearms when they have small children around, a few children are going to grow up knowing they killed a family member.

No legislator can do anything else about it in that situation. As to non-legislators, that poll after Sandy Hook that showed 74% of Americans were against banning handguns pretty much demonstrates they will do nothing.

In similar situations , I have heard crueler people say "Darwinism."

I think the only sensible solution to America's problems is to nuke it from space, just to be sure, then start again this time with sensible people.
Yes, hardening the whole country is a good idea.

Yep, and that includes weapons.

So, it seems you want the state to provide drugs to folk, but not weapons.

LOL.

I was wondering about the thinking of school shooters - who for the most part die in the events - unlike this last one - when I read this article about arguably the first modern era school shooter - Brenda Spencer (I don't like Mondays).

https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-fi...e-for-the-rest She wanted to commit suicide by cop.

I am wondering now what could be done to encourage them to off themselves before they start trying to kill others before they die. They don't necessarily need to have guns, they could follow the example of Brits and just use rope or as Robin Williams did - his belt. We have had numbers of school children jump in front of trains in the last few years to commit suicide. Families have spent quite a lot of money trying to keep their depressed members from offing themselves. They don't have a great record of success.

Another article - which indicates she had brain damage before the event. http://www.stmuhistorymedia.org/a-case-of-the-mondays/

I don't see how you can really encourage crazy people to commit suicide. Maybe have a special television show that encourages you to off yourself if you are a social misfit, with examples of how to do it? I don't think that would go over very well with the public. Parents love their children, even the irretrievably broken ones.

As a boy, I don't really remember mass school shootings taking place, it wasn't a thing for our generation. The first mass shooting I clearly remember was that one in the California McDonalds in 1984, and that wasn't in a school.

So why is it happening more now? Is there something about the culture young people are subjected to nowadays that makes the crazy ones more intensely aware of the impending failure and misery looming up in their adult lives to come, that makes them decide to get a gun and a bunch of ammo and punish the society that is "rejecting" them in whatever way?
