Reminds me a bit of Microsoft's recent problems with forcing computers to upgrade to Windows 10 and how an expired certificate kept computers Windows 7 from automatically checking for updates.

The link above is a link directly to an xpi (Firefox add-on file) stored on Google's API site. This is apparently the fix that requires "studies" to be activated, via the company that is involved in these Firefox "studies"...no thanks. Instead, follow their instructions in order to apply the fix manually (no add-on remains), without signing up for "studies".

I would continue to watch this coming week for a dot update to Firefox containing the full fix. Sorry for my initial jumping the gun on this issue, as it didn't affect me until this afternoon. This really is a PR disaster for the gang that can't shoot straight at Mozilla...Vivaldi anyone?

Compared to the upgrade to Quantum when the add-ons really were gone because many developers gave mozilla the one finger salute its a glitch

As to what browser as a back-up

- it largely depends on what add-ons you rely on but i went straight to palemoon when Quantum was playing havoc with add-ons - not perfect but its a good back-up

It appears to be a signature expiry issue. Mozilla issued a fix this morning. Don't delete your non-functioning extensions/plugins. If any are not running after the update, disable then re-enable them. They should come back up. Cheers!

The issue is fixed in Firefox 66.0.4 (there is also a fix available for the ESR version), should be available for most platforms now.

I know it works on my flavour of Arch Linux (Artix).
