Things like that didn't happen in my neighborhood in the 1950's. Strangers were nice and normal then. Now they're all perverts!

As someone else pointed out there are normally many different flu strains and it takes some time to produce a vaccine. No doubt, something like Spanish flu will appear again at some point in the future. People seem to think it was like a heavy cold, but my grandfather had it and it almost killed him. People would show no symptoms and in some cases, just dropped dead on the spot. Some of the modern, supposed general treatments like Tamiflu have limited effectiveness and may or may not work in a major crisis. I know that when there was a recent scare (swine flu?), a large number of body bags were being stockpiled at Northolt air base in North London, but fortunately, nothing serious came of it. Nevertheless, nature still has plenty of surprises and a pandemic is probably overdue.

I had shingles a few years ago. I was quite worried about it as I knew some older people who had been hit quite hard with it. Anyway, I was put on a course of anti-viral drugs and the large rash across my back started to go in a few days and it was not a problem. Maybe I was lucky?

As for the norovirus, this was really awful and I'm more worried about getting this again during the winter than flu. Oddly enough, the second time was on Christmas day and it arrived suddenly as I sat down to lunch. Nobody else got it but the effects on me were pretty dire. Aside from the obligatory bucket by the bed for several days, I was continually dizzy and literally tripping out even after I started on the stuff prescribed by my doctor who visited several times. When the worst was over, my eyesight remained affected and I had a problem with bright lights for a while. I really wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I want antibiotics in my burgers and ground beef.

It keeps the cow healthy and from becoming ill while it was alive and being fatten up for slaughter.

Surely you don't want to eat burgers and ground beef from a diseased sick cow!!

Even more disturbing is the business in China. An unknown, but large, number of people are executed each year. Their bodies belong to the State. We can assume that many of them were healthy young men, and their body parts are 'harvested'. It is convenient and profitable and, of course, just.

Perverts grabbed little kids then too, it just didn't happen as often so you didn't hear about it as much.

I am in my 50's.

In my lifetime it was this is bad for you, that is bad for you.

What we ate a year ago is now bad.

What we ate 30 years ago is now bad.

When I was a kid living in Italy, it was this pesticide that is used on fruits and vegetables will kill you or the red coloring used for candy and soda pop is going to kill you.

Then after we come to the USA and it was salt and sugar and trans fat and lard and MSG and that and this, stuff we had consumed for decades, that's going to kill you.

What we are eating now maybe bad for us next year or 6 years from now.

Furthermore add that we lived in houses that had lead paint or asbestos before someone figured out that was also bad for you.

Next week they will say water and air is going to kill us.

Then you add that every week there is some food recall for something: don't eat the beef, chicken, cereal, salad, melons, eggs and those are just some of the 100 and 100 food recalls so far in the US in 2018.

Plus all the different experts and studies every other month: one month is Gluten is bad for you, next month is too much sausages and cold cuts (yes this was in the news last week) and other smoked meats is going to give you cancer, another month is consuming the incorrect kind of seafood will give you more mercury than your body should have, another month is you should only be on a diet with no meat and only bread and pastas and then next month after that it's the reverse: don't eat bread and pastas, only eat red meat, and on and on again.

I get a physical every year including full blood works and I am healthy.

I have 5 children all born healthy with no birth defects and they get a physical every year also and they are healthy.

My wife is healthy.

If we are going to worry about everything that we eat is not going to be good for us or it's going to make us sick or it may contain something that shouldn't be there or it's going to raise our blood pressure or it's going to raise our bad cholesterol and on and on and on, you know what? You are not going to be able to eat anything.

So I am not going to worry about some cow having antibiotics.

I am going to eat what I want, when I want, how much I want and damn all those studies and warnings and diets recommendations, etc., etc.,:

we are all going to die sooner or later and no reason to go through life that may end at any time by not enjoy it.

Any of us may wake up today for the last time in our lives or go to sleep tonight and not wake up again.
