Default VirtualDub questions & answers

Hello, sorry if this topic could be a bit OT but I received several private requests about my way to work to encode my DivX from VHS source. So, I though to reply here for everyone would know about.
If this thread would be too OT, I'll delete it, of course (Vintagefun admin.....??)

This is, sintesyzing, the way I usually encode a DivX from a VHS movie:
- player VHS used: PANASONIC NV-FS200
- analogic capture board* *: Pinnacle DC10plus
- colour and image corrector : Sony XV-C900
I play the VHS by the NV-FS200 (TBC and Edit Selector ON), the output signal runs through the XV-C900 and I correct the signal by this device anomals colours dominants and I adjust contrast, Phase, Gamma, etc. checking the video output on a TV monitor.* This corrected videosignal comes to the Pinnacle DC10plus on my computer (Athlon XP+ 1800, 512 Mb RAM DDR, WinXP Pro) and I catch the movie by the Studio 7 software (video MJPEG compression, High Quality Setting, 768x576, 4000 kbps, audio stereo PCM 48 kHz).
I assemble the movie and I equalize audio and video by Studio 7,* than I save it as AVI file (DV compression 720x576).
So, I open this AVI file by Virtual Dub (vers. 1.6.11), and I encode the DivX usually setting the parameters in this way:
- audio compression: MPEG Layer 320kBit/s, mono
- video filters: sharpening ( usually +20/30), resize (400x304)
- video compression: XviD codec vers. 1.03, bitrate depending the requested size wanted (usuall 600/700 kbps), two-pass.

I put the 2-pass project in job, than I launch Virtual Dub and...voilà, the movie is encoded so well!

I hope I was clear enough with my explanation.
Greetings*

Default wmv + virtualdub

Unexpected for the long time virtualdub fans, there is now a plugin for the latest versions, that supports wmv files.

Available here : http://www.anonym.to/?http://home.co...ler/index.html

Of course, you need to have the microsoft codecs installed (wmw9 VCM...) to be able to open these files in virtualdub, and edit in the format of your choice.

I got this tip from roughcedar on some other board. Thanks to him

But maybe you know already?

What's the difference with using Virtualdub MPEG2, which also accepts wmv?

Default oops!

well, my bad.

You right, Dario, I missed that version, so this topic becomes quite useless now and could be deleted by a mod

I don't think it's useless, as you posted a link to some very useful software.

Actually, you can pretty much get any file type to work in VD if you create a sync file...

Just open a notepad, put a line like this in it:

Code:
DirectShowSource("C:\Transport\HC.asf", fps=25)
And name it HC.avs ...Names are relative, but that's what I've been doing since forever, I don't have anything other than regular VD...

Some virtualdub users may have missed this filter, an excellent and much usefull one.
For a better idea about its abilities, have a look below:

note: could have been my Christmas gift, but here in France- I don't know elsewhere, there is a tradition that bans knifes as presents: they are supposed to cut friendship

I had the same problem. Try jumping to the next keyframe (Shift+Right), that sometimes does it.
