Younger folks are used to googling any kind of porn they like and settling down to "enjoy" it. But many of us remember the days before the internet when porn was so much more difficult to find.

I started my lifelong enjoyment of porn with Penthouse, back in the days when it was just tits and bums. I also enjoyed the Pain and Pleasure letters there, the beginnings of my being the spanko I am. For spankings I graduated to the first issues of Janus and the rest is history.

In those days pictures of girls showing their anus were impossible to find but when that began to change I well remember the first I saw, of the late Mary Millington, in Whitehouse I think. The holy grail.

So what did you do before the internet arrived?

I found my dads pornstash once when I was about 10 (don't remember excactly, but it was before puberty). A couple of old Playboy mags (80s) where hidden in the shelf below the hifi-rack. So I used to get those out once in a while and had a look at them. I remember the playmates of Sept89 (Karin & Mirjam Van Breeschooten, thanks to the guy who helped me out in the other thread). They both where fucking hot and I liked their bushes most, so I had a lot of wanks to that picture I flipped through all the mags and tried to find a good pussy shot, because I wondered what will be underneath all the pubes Little did I know that Playboy was one of the "well-behaved" magazines and there has never been more than tits and pubes. But it kept my imagination alive anyway (and my dick hard )

Fortunately, we had internet as soon as I hit puberty (and the stuff was expensive back then but my dad always has been a tech freak so we had internet pretty early). So that did work out for me, but when I look back now, it's a bit sad that I almost completely missed out the magazine-era.

Oh and there was another thing...floppy disks for the C64! But that was even earlier than the age of 10. My dad bought us a C64 and I used to play a lot of games on that machine. With the C64 came a big box of floppy disks with all sort of games. Once we invited some friends from school over to play different C64 games together and we took one after another out of the box. And there was this one disk we didn't know about, because it wasn't labeled ..we put it in and voila, porn! Some pumped up dude screwed a girl on the bench in a gym Very disturbing for me back then, I guess we all didn't realize what we saw. For me, it was my first encounter with (animated) porn. But it was all but good, typical 80s style, low resolution, enormous pixel size and therefore no clear image. I prefered the mags

Yeah, back in the good old sixties life was a bust but porn required a few shillings and the nerve to go into the little bookshops. At first it was the stall in Shepherds Bush market but that was a bit too public for me so then it became a grubby little place in Hanwell, West London, where a little old lady ran a dirty book shop. The only ones I could afford were the second hand Spick and Span and hence to this day still love them. Yum, plenty of them on this site.

Thanks Defacqz. I remember buying my first few copies of Penthouse. I would go to the newspapers stall at the bus station and take Penthouse and also a newspaper which I would put on top when I came to pay. But the saleswoman would always take off the paper so everyone could see what I was buying, and glare at me as I handed over what to me was a lot of money. But the subsequent wanking at home was bliss and worth every penny. I remember those first few mags very well, even the smell of the print.

It was a sad day for me when my brother went into the Air Force and his nice stash of porn disappeared. He had a nice variety from PB & PH to Stud & Swank. He even had a copy of The Happy Hooker for some serious study. I enjoyed them for a couple of years, but I was 14 when they disappeared and I was not happy.

Hedge porn, at school I would find porn mags stuffed under hedges, plus going to a boys school we traded smut.

I read a book called 'Love and Sex with Robots' by a guy called David Levy (and the dude's a professor of robotics, he knows what he's talking about), and he says that by around 2030 we'll all be having sex with robots (I think he should speak for himself), because this technology is a lot more advanced than most people realise. He makes an interesting comparison with the rise of the internet in the 90s, that some people said that the coming ubiquity of HQ porn might mean that men make less effort to pursue real, live women, which is of course, nonsense.

Anyway, for me, although I'm just about young enough to have 'come of age' when the internet was around, we never had it at home, because although my dad was a computer programmer, he's also very, um, 'frugal'. And he's a catholic, so no chance of him having a porn stash, my early experiences were all very tame, soft-porn on VHS, pics in FHM, stuff like that. I didn't even know that women had pubic hair until my first sexual experience. I think it's healthy that young lads can know about this stuff now, although equally, I think that mainstream porn could do with being a little less (choosing my words carefully here) male-centric.

I think another interesting question is: what did we do about anything before the internet? Directions, flight reservations, movie times, banking……..I can't even remember.

Before the internet: directions use used a map sometimes a compass. Flights you went to a travel agent. Bank hole in wall or go into a bank. Phone, phone boxes where you could ring and find out what films are on, or you could by a paper.

My mate's dad was our local newsagent so our circle of friends treated his shop as a porn library.
