I put my vote in for Wilson also, Federal Reserve, Income Tax, WW1, 14 points.

A well taken point. On innumerable threads here British members have posted to beyond the limits of terminal boredom about their negative assessment of Anthony Linton Blair (I myself among them) and of his almost as dud successor, Gordon Brown. However ankie, if you can distance yourself a little bit from this test of your patience, you may see that the dissatisfaction of America's friends and enemies alike is actually a compliment.

All I can say in reply is that all power comes with responsibility. Your president has serious power over the lives of people outside the borders of the USA: this interest in your country's politics from outsiders like myself is inevitable. I can promise you that at least from me it is a friendly interest, from the citizen of a traditional ally who wishes your country well and generally wishes your president well: I didn't actually dislike the last one, I merely thought he was a bad choice and that there were those under him in his administration unworthy of the trust he so touchingly reposed in them. Your opinion of my country's leaders is every bit as valid, but I doubt if my country is important enough that you need to think about its leaders or trouble yourself with an opinion of their performance in office.

Incidentally, in my moderator's hat, this thread isn't here to invite members to make offensive comments about the United States of America.

To get back to the question,Nixon was a bad man but a relatively good president, while Bush was a bad president but a relatively good man.

While I think Bush is the absolute worst. there have been plenty worse ones than Nixon. Guys like James Buchanan and others from that era. In terms of corruption, the Warren Harding and U.S. Grant administrations were as bad or worst than Nixon's.

Why is Nixon even on the list to begin with ?, the man was probably one of the most empathic politicians of the last millennium who`s decision making effected him in a manner distinctly human (Unlike the suited robots of today) . What is he still being castigated for trying to prevent the opposition from possibly rigging the election votes (Again) , like in the 60`s with the whiter than white Kennedy clan ?.

The fact that his name is in the same poll as Bush is ridiculous anyway, but then Clinton and Regan`s names aren`t up there at all so i guess this thread is hardly one to be taken seriously .

Nixon got us off the gold standard and I believe Affirmative Action started under him.

He was an awful president.

They're all cut from the same cloth - some just wear it better than others, and Obama wears it best of all.

Actually it was FDR who took us off the gold standard in the early thirties so he could simply print more money.
