Too bad the cheap **** didn't tell the barman to put your whole tab on his bill. Or better yet, write you out a cheque for some serious money

It's not like he pays taxes or anything.

There are people in this and other streets near me with modern attics(mine was built for me in the late 70's) with Dormer windows and skylights and the like so I assume theirs is nothing compared to mine.
I am a sheetmetal worker( but I rarely do architectural work, most of the time I fabricate Ductwork) I do have some knowledge on flashing. Copper and lead are more often used in situations like this. Galvanized metal is zinc coated on it and typically has a pattern you can see in the metal like snowflakes(called spangles) I did one job where I assisted on installing a roof, and the local code forbid the use of copper, and we had to install metal that was coated with zinc, but it wasn't galvanized and had no spangles.(as I said earlier I am a fabrication guy who specializes in duct work, so I was out of my element, no pun intended.)
GM I am in a similar living situation as you. I moved with my brother in 2004, and a year later our mother moved in with us. I love her but hate it when we are criticized for having our mother live with us. We all have our lives, and I would rather mine involve the family than be cold and distant, like some families I have known.

[QUOTE=Greenman;1650388]Hmm you might be right, although it is thinner than lead. I have a portable air conditioner, but it needed to be cleaned out and there wasn't time to do it this time, of course now I will be cleaning it out and making the cold cartridge thing ready in the freezer. One major drawback is it is not able to be placed near the window, and on a really hot day the room gets so hot that the air becomes warm as well, with the ice water in the container melting faster than in an ordinary room. At present the fan is the best option. As any schoolboy knows hot air rises from the ground and with lagging can hang around for hours before dissipating.

I am trying to understand what you are explaining. Are you using the freezer to attempt to cool the room? If you are, it will not work, there are parts to the AC unit that absorb the heat from your hot room(the evaporator) and carry it outside to be released (the condenser) Your refrigerator works the same way but if you leave the door open the heat being absorbed (by the evaporator) is nullified by the condenser being in the same space releasing heat and not being separated. Your room has to be like the freezer with the door closed. Speaking of this when you install the AC unit shut your windows and doors to make it effective. Hope this helps, stay cool.

Noticeable... we had a bit of a downtime?

Anyway, if you fancy hooking up for a sort of illicit affair - apparently things have improved it seems; check this out.

Well yes that is the whole point of getting one, however the air will turn warmer as the room gets hotter which completely defeats the point I know, but then later as it cools down so does the air. I can't leave it near a door because I am up some stairs and it won't stretch near to the window either-unless I find a long extension lead. It is PORTABLE, it is not built-in as it wasn't possible to do this(as far as I know it can't be done) otherwise I would have a cooler place. I don't think AC units are designed for attics. Anyway suffice to say it's bloody hot in the Summer, and freezing cold in the Winter(but I have a portable heater and it makes it nice and toasty) so the worst of both worlds but hey, I have survived this long

No, thanks, I still prefer the old school method.

Did you hear about the meteor that was the size of a skyscraper-it missed Earth by 7,500 miles. I really do think we ought to be considering what to do if a much larger one were on course to hit Earth, because sooner or later it is going to happen and it will do irreparable damage to somewhere and have devastating consequences for everyone. We cannot afford to ignore this threat to our very existence-bet Camping never saw that one coming either

Is Michele Bachmann the new tea party sweetheart likely to run for US President 2012? Been watching the situation room on CNN late at night my time and apparently she seems to be gaining popularity at the moment.
